Program: A Visit from 5th District Supervisor Efren Carrillo
Efren
was born in Southern California, raised briefly in Mexico City before moving
to Santa Rosa with his family and attending local schools. The family was
the first to move into a Habitat for Humanity house where his family still
resides.
As Supervisor to most of west Sonoma County and Roseland, he has had his hands full of county issues and demands. The budget is the big one and projected to get worse before it gets better. There will be more layoffs, reduced service and land use and water use challenges ahead. The criminal justice system is half of the county budget. Efren is concerned with the gang problems and recognizes that more needs to be done to help Hispanic youth avoid the gang traps that pull them into the lifestyle. He very much encourages mentorships with today’s youth.
Other issues to deal with are solid waste disposal, Dutra asphalt plant
and the future of Sutter Medical’s proposed facilities adjacent to the Wells
Fargo Center. Our county representatives have their work load expanding and
Efren Carrillo seems intent to tackle it head on.
