The Rotary Moment came from the lips of PP Fred Zmarzly (PP ’07-’08) who wants his offering to be in the permanent Club Bulletin file, so it is quoted in full:
"People spend their lives in anticipation, - in determining to be vastly happy at some period when they have time. "But the present time has one advantage over every other - it is our own. Past opportunities are gone, future have not come. We may lay in a stock of pleasures, as we would lay in a stock of wine; but if we defer the tasting of them too long, we shall find that both are soured by age."
| Other members recognized for Club Service duties for the meeting
were: Tarina Hall Cashier; Ginny Pitts Set-up; Jim Sullivan Greeter; Chuck Olson Tickets; Jim Valinoti Photos; Ken Prouty Bulletin; Scott Bartley Program. |
![]() |
| Our only Visiting Rotarian was Clarice Bolles, Realtor from the Santa Rosa Club. | |
| Guests: Marv Freeman from Palm Springs attended with Pete Lamonica (PP ’75-’76); Lisa Greenfield, one of our former members, was introduced by Anne Abrams |
Announcements & Such
| The wonderful alternative meeting site of May 4th was Ginny Pitt's winery. The rare Springtime rain did not dampen spirits nor did any cancel their plans to attend. Thanks Ginny, for hosting club Rotarians, spouses, and guests to the best Cinco de Quatro Party of the season. |

Darcie Fellows was recognized by the District Governor for being the only red badge in attendance. A great start for a fine new member. She was also recognized by President David.
(And then, being no dummy, I think President David just saw a great opportunity to get photographed between two beautiful women, (Laura & Darcie) and wasted no time positioning himself for me to capture it all J -Ed) Bravo David!
Ridgeway High School Rotary Scholarships:
| Chairman Ken Dansie, tireless worker and interviewer, expressed thanks to six other Rotarians who interviewed a record 24 students for scholarships: Tarina Hall; PE Susan Nowacki; PDG Mike Merrill; PP Phil Talamantes; PP Chris Parr; and PP Brian Herndon. They were able to offer 17 students coveted $500 scholarships. |
![]() |
| Rotary Foundation Chair Harry Rubins announced that we are close but not yet at our Club Foundation donations. The incentive is a 5 to 1 Club match so talk to Harry soon. |
Raffle
PP Pete Lamonica helped Chuck Olson with tickets by becoming a table-to-table salesman. The raffle was down to four marbles. Former Rotarian and guest Lisa Greenfield had the correct ticket but was unable to draw the black marble for a win.
Recognition
| Darcie Fellows met the President and Fine master over the Press Democrat photo. |
![]() |
| Doug Angelo explained away his new suntan by saying that he thought that sunscreen SPF5 was quite adequate for Oahu. He suffered through lots of snorkeling and two cruises on catamarans, one that came across a school of porpoises. |
Program: Preservation Ranch with Eric Koenigshoffer
| Program Chair Scott Bartley introduced our speaker Real Estate and Land Use Attorney |
![]() |
| Eric Koenigshoffer used PowerPoint to tell us about Preservation Ranch, a collection of 160 parcels that total 19,650 acres of land near Annapolis, Sonoma County. He detailed the conditions for conversion of land from its present use to other uses such as logging, vineyards and dedicated woodlands. |
