Recognition

Remembering how much fun it was to fine people, our past president went on a tear…………

Brian Herndon has new shoes and was fined $20 for having both feet operated upon. He’ll be back on the golf course in about six weeks.

Dave McDonald got some inside information on the District Conference in Los Angeles which cost him a $20 fine.

Lou Capuano got $20 worth of recognition for his article in the North Bay Business Journal on his company growth phase.

Gail Johnson told up that her husband’s (the REAL Don Johnson) insurance company sponsored some events at Konocti Harbor Inn. So $20 to Rotary for that.

Pam Davis has been working too hard because North Bay Companies is expanding. That also cost $20.

Ginny Pitts will have a birthday on August 29 so she donated $100 to the Crab Feed!!

Rosemary Mojica was visiting from the new Rancho Adobe Rotary Club in Rohnert Park and was fined $10. Mike Moore paid her $10 because it isn’t nice to fine guests.

Mike Merrill’s wife, Maureen, will be 55 soon so Mike doubled it to make a $110 donation to the Rotary Foundation.

Harry Rubins made the front page of the Press Democrat. That little gem of a quote cost him $20.

Mike Moore was recognized for not doing much of anything but that apparently is worth another $10.

Marv Hyman coughed up $100 just because he’s a nice guy!

Carl Munos’ back went out, he’s working too hard in the current real estate market so he was fined $20.

(Say, next time we know that Chris Parr-Feldman is going to preside, please warn this bulletin writer. I think I’m the only one that didn’t get fined but I’m sure I wouldn’t be as lucky next time. I’ll need to wash my poodle that day.)

Program:

David Wattell introduced Katrina Durkey of the Girls on the Run International organization.
Katrina has three daughters and a passion for helping others. She is involved in the ‘Girls on the Run’ program here locally. It’s a national organization sponsored by New Balance, Kellogg’s Frosted Flakes and Goody products. It emphasizes healthy living and lifestyle choices and is built around a running program.

There is a Fall and Spring session at each site, usually an elementary school with space to run, and has up to fifteen girls in each session. The goal is to empower girls with confidence and respect. Locally, there are programs at Hidden Valley Elementary School in Santa Rosa and Corona Elementary School in Petaluma.

The program is similar to Girl Scouts except that it is geared to a running (or walking) regimen that is geared to each individual girls abilities and desires. There are over 40,000 girls in the national program which was started by Molly Barker, a former four-time Hawaiian Ironman triathelete winner. The cost is $130 per girl per twelve-week session and is for girls 8 to 12 years old.

Recently, $2,500 from Santa Rosa’s Measure ‘O’ was made available for low-income girls to participate in two new proposed sites in Santa Rosa. For more information, visit: www.girlsontherun.org
