President Fred then thanked Will Richards and Dale Sipe for set-up, Chris Young for cashier service, Diane Winbsy for selling raffle tickets, Jim Valinoti for photographs, and finally, Jim Hinton for writing the Bulletin.
Award To The Deserving
District Governor Ken Moulton made a very deserving award today--the "Quiet Rotarian Award"--to Dale Sipe. Dale received a standing ovation from the members, all of whom recognize and appreciate the quiet, dedicated service Dale gives to Rotary.

President Fred mentioned last week to the Board of Directors that District Governor Ken had asked him to consult with our Board of Directors as to who would be the best candidate for a "Quiet Rotarian" Award, in appreciation for their tireless efforts over many years to keep our club running effortlessly. It was then that President Fred said "At this time it is my pleasure to announce that the unanimous decision for this years Quiet Rotarian was clearly Dale Sipe. Dale received a standing ovation, and then President Fred asked Dale to join he and DG Ken at the podium, whereupon, Ken commented that when he arrived at 9:30 this morning for the Board Meeting, Dale Sipe was already there setting up the tables for the lunch. DG Ken Moulton then presented Dale with a Quiet Rotarian Certificate of Recognition.
Announcements and Such:
President Fred sadly announced that he would be unable to preside at next Monday's meeting because duty called him to San Francisco--to pour wine! Where, one wonders, is the priority???? Pouring wine to strangers, or being with his beloved club members? In any event, Past President Chris Parr will substitute for him.
President Fred also mused that perhaps he was being groomed for District Governor--having had dinner yesterday at Santa Rosa Golf & Country Club with DG Ken Moulton and Pam, PDG John Withers and Pat, and PDG Mike Merrill and Maureen. His suggestion got only groans from the audience.

Crab Feed Co-Chair Jim Hinton announced that one of the planned live auction items is a two week stay at a villa in Tuscany, and that Past President Jim Valinoti has made a very generous offer to donate $1,000.00 to make it happen. A thousand thanks, Jim!
Susan Nowacki, who heads the silent auction for the Crab Feed, reported that there will be at least 10 baskets donated by Pam Davis for filling by members. She asked the members to start thinking now about volunteering to fill these baskets with fascinating theme items.
Jeff Ray announced that the annual club golf tournament at Bennett Valley Golf Course on Friday, August 24, starts at 1:00 pm, followed by the Capuano BBQ at 5:00 pm. All golfing abilities are welcome. Jeff asked more members to sign up for the BBQ. This is a great fun social event.
Birthdays, Anniversaries & Such:
Happy birthdays to Bo Kirschen on Aug 7 and to Bill Dodson on Aug 12. And congratulations to Bill and Ann Fisher, who celebrated their 8th Anniversary on Aug 6. President Fred also announced that he, too, was celebrating an anniversary with his wife, Alberta--their 41st--today!
| Don Ling was welcomed back today after an absence of several weeks for knee replacement surgery. Don is recovering nicely. He mentioned that he had a old knee for sale. Call 539-6915 for price and other details. |

| Brian Herndon is tolerating deprivation of golf syndrome due to surgery on both feet, but he's still practicing his swing mentally. We wish you a very speedy recovery, Brian. |
Recognition
Chris Rosell was recognized for a trip he and Susan took recently to their brand new vacation home on an island in Puget Sound to celebrate their 2nd anniversary. Congratulations . . . and that will be $10.00 please.

Ken Dansie was recognized for surviving with just a scratch (on his body) a major roll-over crash on Highway 1 caused by a large metal object in the road. He's going to have to purchase another car, because his BMW is totaled. The $10.00 recognition fee was nothing compared to what the toll might have been. Is this what they mean by "The luck of the English?"--(or is it the Irish?).
Raffle
Raffles Lost and Won:
The loser: Diane Winbsy, who failed to pick the black marble from the bag. And the winner: Ken Prouty, who won a bottle of fine red wine to add to his cellared collection.
Program: Our Distinguished District Governor

Maureen Merrill introduced Ken
Moulton, the 2007-2008 District Governor of District 5130. |

Ken is a 16-year Rotarian, a former president of Windsor Rotary Club, a UC Berkeley graduate, an educator with a 35 year career in teaching and the first principal of the continuation high school in Windsor, a founder of the Windsor Boys and Girls Club, a leader in his community and in Rotary, a man of many accomplishments.

Ken spoke of the Rotary inspiration he experienced at his first Rotary International Convention in Barcelona when he saw 180 flags assembled representing all the Rotary countries. And he spoke of the inspiration he experienced again at the recent RI Convention in Salt Lake City, where Bill Gates asked 20,000 Rotarians the provocative questions: "Who are you?" and "Why are you here?" And Ken deftly parlayed the accomplishments of Rotary praised by Bill Gates to the accomplishments of our club members he had heard about at the Board meeting this morning, specifically mentioning Dale Sipe, Ginny Pitts, Susan Nowacki, Chris Parr, and Jim Underhill.
Ken also spoke inspirationally about the District's great youth exchange program and its clean water, literacy, shelter, and medical projects in Mexico, Viet Nam, Peru, and Guatemala. He said the defining moment for him happened in Mexico, at a cancer clinic in Guadalajara, when he encountered an elderly lady in a wheel chair who pleaded with him to "not forget us."
One of Ken's goals for this year is to establish a Leadership Institute where club leaders can learn to be better leaders.
He closed with "I'm a Rotarian and I'm here to make a difference in the world." Bravo!
