Announcements and Such:
| Crab Feed Talk: Our President elect, Fred Zmarzly announced that we have a few volunteers for next years Crab Feed Committee. Susan Nowacki volunteered to be in charge of the Silent Auction. Bill Dodson signed up again for Crab/kitchen duty (AWESOME crab this year by the way) and Gail Johnson will be in charge of decorations. However we are still in need of a Crab Feed Chairperson and a Chair for the bar unless we decide to go to the Vets Building. We all thought that Chris Young raised his hand to volunteer but it was to nominate Dave Wattell for the job. I think Chris you should give it another thought... David McDonald did a fantastic job so that is a hard act to follow. Thank you all for volunteering!!! |

| Foundation matching donations: Harry Rubins, Foundation Chair, announced that a club match has been authorized to encourage additional contributions to our Paul Harris accounts. This helps members to achieve their Paul Harris ($1,000) for their or their family member's Paul Harris Award. These donations are the heart of Rotary and they are fully tax deductible. This offer is only available for the next four meetings, not counting the week we are dark for St. Patrick's Day and expires after March 26 so act now. Last year we had 95% of the club members participating. As of last week we had just 55% and this week it is up to 60%. Let's see if we can make it to 100%. The club match is good for any donations over $140.00 and up to $300. Thanks to all those who have already participated. Funds to the Foundation will benefit RI efforts in our District 5130 and throughout the world improving Education, Health Care, Nutrition, and World Peace. How many of us have said "I'm having a senor moment"? Chance Massaro invites us to take a different approach and to look at what you DO remember under the theory that "what you think about comes about." He mentioned five principles to become aware of in improving your memory: focus on what you remember, how you remember it, use your senses, make associations, and recall what you did later.
Chance Massaro talked about the following steps as a recipe to remember using as an example trying to remember names:

When we have positive associations with a person and a name, we are more likely to remember that name. Associations should be personalized to our own strengths, such as interesting language, math, visual, spatial, and emotional content etc. Bill Fisher shaves his head and calls himself baldy, for example.
