Ginny Pitts (just off the plane from Paris) said she has tickets available for the Vets Meeting on November 6th from 11:30-1:30. The club bought 97 tickets so buy and buy often. WE HAVE NO MEETING ON NOV 3rd! But!!! We are meeting instead on the 6th as stated above. Ginny Pitts

FINES

Our Rotary Club had an unofficial group head to Paris for 10 days. Ginny Pitts, Tarina Hall and Terry Galazzo decided to take a little vaca together to the land of frogs and snobs. Their plan was to eat, drink and then attempt to walk around town. They should have walked more as Terry had her wallet stolen in the Metro and lost a few Euros. It sounded like a fun trip and why weren’t we invited? $10 fine for each. (or 8.55 Euros)

Gail Johnson got fined $10 for her trip to Italy and Tulsa. It would have been more money, but King Louie felt sorry for her going to OK.

(That’s for sure; it’s a dry state!!! You’d think with all that oil, that by now they’d have some cabernet too! ‘Ed J)

Gail Johnson

Ed Burr Ed Burr got a Blue badge and was fined $5 until Sec. Janet told “the Gumbo King” it costs the club $9.55 so Ed kicked in a ten spot. Way to go Ed!

Pat Stoll was back from a trip trekking in the hills of Colorado. We are not sure how this could be a fun trip with no snow but he was charged $10 nonetheless. Pat was delighted to ease along with a light sentence .... Pat Stoll

Rich Pratt Rich Pratt had an interesting vacation that promised him lots of copulation, boobies and a deserted island. (PLou immediately said he wasn’t goin’ there). Well, no, it wasn’t Vegas ... Rich went to the Galapagos to see 15 days of turtles mating and plenty of red-footed booby birds. King Louie of the Gumbo said that “Turtle mating is easy ... it’s just the undressing that is difficult for them.” $10 for this Darwinian tour.
Dave “Big Foot” Wattell Dave “Big Foot” Wattell went hiking on the coast and broke his foot. Two months in a cast. His 26th wedding anniversary also came upon him and he has a new job at LBC. $15 fine for all this hoopla.

(Yeah,... they do come in threes, don’t they? –Ed J)

Judith Light was back in action. She took her grandson to Disneyland and was charged $10. Judith Light
Jeff Ray Jeff Ray was $5 lighter for being a Marshal in Sonoma for the big Golf Tourney.
Gary Lucas Gary Lucas showed up without his stash (mustache that is). When asked what happened to it he replied that it was a personality change, where upon he launched into an explanation of how we can all get ahead of the daylight savings gig by simply refusing to buy into it .... in other words, just don’t set your clock back an hour but go ahead and get up an hour early and be ahead of the game till next year ... must be why he was seen wandering around at 4:00 a.m. this morning.

Raffle:

Brian Herndon grabbed from 16 marbles to no avail. Wine: Our Lucky Brit, Ken Dansie, got the wine. And speaking of our local Brit, be sure to read in it’s entirety last week’s bulletin (10-20-03). Ken did a masterful job of writing that one ... and, yes, it was in English!

Program:

PDG Mike Merrill PDG Mike Merrill introduced our speakers,
Bruce and Loretta Denner. The Denner’s went as Rotary Volunteers to Novosibirisk, Russia to teach English to Russian teenagers.

We had a nice slide show of the trip to Siberia where temps go as low as –30 degrees and up to 90 degrees in the summer. They were 2 hours from Moscow and spent 4 weeks in Russia where the Russian Teens were sent to a summer school to learn English. The Russian Rotaries were great hosts and very protective. The lowest paying jobs in Russia are the government workers and private enterprise is cropping up a lot more.

King Louie was given two banners to hang up from the local clubs in Siberia. COOL!
