Scenes from Prez Mike's Debunking

Club Assembly

President Louis Capuano President Louis Capuano opened the meeting at 12.25 pm with his usual understated aplomb.

Pledge:

Jim Valinoti led the pledge of Allegiance

The Rotary Moment:

John Meislahn John Meislahn read a passage from his Bible, which somehow included a reference to the creation of Bill Fisher and Marigo’s bitching. Maybe Fisher was created because of Marigo’s bitching or Marigo’s bitching caused Fisher’s creation? One can only surmise.

(For those of you who missed it...- Ed J)

“In the beginning God created Rotary, Rotary International and ... Bill Fisher. Rotary was created in Man’s image and void of women ... completely. And God said let Rotary have dominion over all living things allowing all types of businessmen to join together in fellowship and enjoy good jokes about attorneys. But Rotarians were not without sin ... and were hence punished with eating at The Los Robles Lodge week after week until the fiery pit of Hell is opened up and certain members are invited to jump in. And on the 6th day God let women join Rotary and it was good. But on the 7th day the lord rested ... he rested from all the good work he had created through Rotary but he also rested because he was tired of listening to Marigo bitch about day 6. And God saw everything he had made and made sure that Rotarians would reproduce and that Capuano would begat Hinton and Hinton would begat Parr and Parr would begat Rosell, and that Rosell would begat as well to keep the way or the Rotary tree of life. Amen!”

Visiting Rotarians:

President Elect Jim Hinton introduced the visiting Rotarians. President Elect Jim Hinton

Announcements:

President Louis reminded the throng that the next meeting of the Sonoma County Association of Rotary Clubs is to be held at the Washoe House on October 30th.

By Jeri Arnold: Members are reminded that silent auction items for this years crab feed should be brought to the club meeting on November 17th.

By President Louis: Live auction items for the crab feeds should be directed to Arnie Carston and/or
Ed Burr
.

New member induction:

Cal Kimes
Cal Kimes, sponsored by PDG John Withers, is a new member of our Club. He was introduced and presented with his red badge and Rotary pin by President Louis.

Cal is an “old” new member, as is Gary Leopold, who was inducted last week. Both had an air of “been there, done that” and are ready and willing to do it again. It’s great to have them back.

Recognition:

President Elect Jim Hinton Since President Elect Jim Hinton replaced President Louis at last week's meeting and fined the heck out of everybody, President Louis decided to magnanimously recognize members but to defer (he said defer not cancel) their fines until a later date.

President Louis’s “walkabout” resulted in the following recognition:

Ken Davenport Ken Davenport was at today’s meeting (how many weeks in a row is that, Ken?) and was recognized for his contribution as the 2nd Club president after Bill Fisher, even though he made it by default (replacing our short-term President J. David Cole) and will be forever known as “Past President 2.1.”

Phil Talamantes was recognized for tripping to New York, Montreal and Quebec City where we presume he practiced his French. Phil Talamantes
Gail Johnson Gail Johnson was recognized for Kansas City, Miami and Italy. Fortunately she spent most of her time in Italy (one month).
Susan Nowacki was recognized for Maine, Boston and Rhode Island. Susan Nowacki

Harry Rubins was recognized for hiring a new “Office Mary” and was having trouble determining exactly what her job duties would be, but finally admitted she would be “managing” him nicely, thank you. Harry Rubins

Bob Marigo Bob Harris and Bob Marigo were recognized along with Jim Sullivan for going cruising on the SS Ecstasy. I have trouble with the concept of the three of them on that ship together.

(And for those of you who wonder what could possibly bring Harris, Marigo, & Sullivan together on the same boat: it would have to be a “Hobo” event – Ed J)

Program:

Ron Street Ron Street was recognized for visiting his kids in Pensacola, Florida ...
... and at the same table, Bill Gittins was recognized for his 2nd place piece at the Harvest Fair in the professional level competition for artwork. Bill Gittins

Raffle:

Tom Langley
Tom Langley missed the marble but John Withers took the wine.

Club Assembly

President Louis dismissed all visiting Rotarians and guests and the assembly started promptly at 1.00 pm.

President Louis reiterated his three main goals for the coming year, namely to grow the strength of the Club, to accomplish an International project and to increase the club’s participation in the community. President Louis then called on the individual service directors to report.

Community Service by David McDonald:
David reported that the club would be delivering 320 dictionaries this year to 6 local schools and in addition the club would be offering 200 Spanish/English dictionaries to the schools. Also the new rotary sign you’ll see when heading south on 101 on the outskirts of Santa Rosa was partially funded by the Club. Lastly the Salvation Army bell-ringing schedule will be out shortly, so sign up.

Jeri Arnold Vocational Service by Jeri Arnold:
Jeri reported that the two scholarship programs with Piner High School (academic) and Ridgeway High School (vocational) would be continuing this year. Please contact Ken Dansie if you are interested in assisting with student interviews at Ridgeway. Also there is a vocational scholarship available at the District level. There will also be a communications contest hopefully limited to local high schools, more details later.

International service by Chris Rosell:
We have allocated 15% of our fund raising to International projects. Chris reported that we have spent $6,000 on the Ukrainian Diabetes Project educating approximately 500 children with the hope of pushing that number to $5,000. $3,000 has been set aside for future projects. Also Gail Johnson is currently looking after our International Exchange student.
Chris Rosell

Club service by Bill Dodson:
Bill Dodson
thanked everybody involved in the set-up process and Bob Harris especially for his photo wizardry. Bill encouraged club members to sign up for bulletin writing. “It’s not as hard as it seems” was the quote.

President Louis then called upon Bulletin Editor Jim Valinoti to give us an update on the do’s and don’ts when writing the bulletin. Jim thanked all of the Bulletin Reporters and let us know that he would be calling some of us to help fill out the slots on the Bulletin Roster that remain for President Louis’ year.

President Louis reminded us all of the foundation dinner on November 8th and that both raffle tickets and dinner tickets are still available. See Harry (the foundation “Swamy”) Rubins.

John Meislahn informed the members of two upcoming functions: A “fireside” at Discovery Office Systems on November 12th and our Xmas Brunch on December the 7th. Please reserve the dates.
