Moment:

John Meislahn seized the opportunity to thank those who put on President Lou’s debunking on Sunday, i.e. Mike Moore, Ken Kushnir (and Marlin), Ed Burr, Bill Dodson (and Toodie), Scott Bartley, Janet Codding (and Rene), Chris Rosell (and Susan Carpenter) and Pete Lamonica. Ken’s friend Pat Thurston helped as well.

John Meislahn

And one of the hardest workin’ crew members of the day....Bob Marigo. Thanks Bob!
Bob Marigo

Shortly thereafter, Ginny Pitts ordered up a big thank you for John Meislahn’s contribution for his roasting of President Lou.

Neil Silverman And if the food and the roasting weren’t enough, we also had a special treat when member Neil Silverman stepped up, joined the Gator Beat band members and blew a few solos for us on his saxophone. Get Down, Neil!!!!

Our Greeter:

Brian Herndon Brian Herndon introduced our two visiting Rotarians, Karl Campbell and Fred Rasmussen.

Ticket Sales:

Ed Burr handled ticket sales nicely with early help from Steve Wright.

Announcements:

The next President’s Association meeting will be July 16, place to be announced in the future.

The next Board Meeting will be July 12 at Josef’s with Jim Hinton wielding the gavel.

The membership was dining on its first revised menu that would maintain the $15 per meal cost to Rotarians. A discussion ensued with the result, by the “raising of the hands”, that the price will increase one dollar to maintain the same menu that we are use to dining upon. Basically, we will continue to be offered additional salads and desserts that would otherwise disappear without the extra dollar.

And, last but not least, the Bartley Barbeque will be held at Ginny Pitts' Harvest Moon winery estate on August 30. You’re going to pay for it so you might as well attend. We may get a sneak barrel tasting of her son Randy’s zinfandel if we ask nicely. No doubt Ginny’s have the help of her buddy Tarina Hall....do these blouses speak loudly? Ginny Pitts & Tarina Hall

Gary Lucas promoted a golf tournament to the YWCA on July 9 for $150 that includes golf, dinner and the tournament with tee prizes. It will be held at the North Course of Foxtail in Rohnert Park.

John Meislahn announces that Roger Olson will host a Fireside meeting at Sunset Aviation on July 22.

Recognition:

Caroline Fox President Louie fined Caroline Fox for having a birthday and a Rotarian anniversary this month to the tune of $5.

Harry Rubins was recognized for being one of the new board members of the Santa Rosa Symphony League. Harry has been a long time member and offered $50 to the Rotary Foundation. Thank you, Harry.

Carson Mitchell President Louie noted that Carson Mitchell took a trip last Sunday and was fined $5. The ‘trip’ occurred coming down the stairs at the debunking. Apparently Louie didn’t see fit to fine himself for the ‘trip’ that resulted in the bandage on his hand at the debunking. Carson said he sees a lawsuit forthcoming.

Raffle:

Tom Laengle was the lucky guy that got the right ticket and picked the right marble for $700 on President Louie’s last meeting. Next year’s President Jim Hinton was taking notes! Tom Laengle

Program:

Our own Roger Olson, Rotary member since 1983, provided our program!! Roger is a sales rep for Curry’s office Supplies, Marketing Director for the Pacific Coast Air Museum, President of the Association of Western States Aviation Museums and, starting this June, is doing marketing and sales for Aircraft Charter and acquisition and management for Sunset Aviation at the Charles M. Schultz Sonoma County Airport. Roger Olson

Roger treated us to a video about the Pacific Coast Air Museum that captured the spirit of aviation in Sonoma County. The museum is a haven for those that are interested in aviation and for the children of our schools who have an opportunity to be introduced to airplanes and aviation in general.

Roger Olson, Joe Perez, & Paul Stychno
After the video, Roger was joined
by fellow P-CAM members Joe Perez and Paul Stychno

The museum has an excellent collection of vintage and rare flying machines like their $16 million F-16 Viper, or check out the Stripe Master. They have a number of others that may be available for you to sit in the pilot’s seat and soar in your mind. Check it out; you may get hooked and join the group.

The PACM is in the process of generating funds to build a new museum facility that truly represents the efforts of the members and provides the spaces needed for the full benefit to the community. Phase One will be about $8 million. Stay tuned for updates.

There will be the annual air show on August 22 and 23 and they expect twelve thousand people each day. Don’t miss it. Check out their website.

Louie Capuano’s End of Year:

Louie very graciously thanked his Board of Directors and all of the members who played a key roll in his administration. Thereupon, he pinned a badge on Jim Hinton and proclaimed him Rotary President of the Santa Rosa West Rotary. Lou pins Jim Hinton

Then President Jim, emotionally, thanked Lou for a great year and pledged to accomplish three goals next year: 1) all members have fun in Rotary, 2) 100% participation from the membership and 3) attain 100 members within the year to help celebrate the 100th anniversary of Rotary International.

A Bit of Ceremony:

Jim Hinton presents Lou with his past president's pin There is a point in each Rotary President’s year when he must participate in a bit of ceremony, and outside of the President’s actual Debunking this marks the final hours of his Presidency. This would be when he/she officially receives his/her Past President’s pin.

President Elect Jim Hinton did the honors by placing President Louie’s Past President’s pin on his lapel.

And in like manner, going President Louie also officially pinned our new incoming President Jim Hinton. Lou pins Jim Hinton

Once he was officially a Past President, Louie wasted no time in shedding his Presidential garb to once again become the casually dressed club member that we have all known and admired for some time.
