Guests of Rotarians
Guests of Rotarians were introduced by their respective hosts, Bob
Zeni doing the honors for Jan Hansen, Counselor at Piner High
School, PDG John Withers for Capt. Patty Rassmussen, and
Tom Laengle for Craig Brisgel, who made a pitch for
volunteers for a forthcoming 20-30 event. Craigs father, Jerry,
was a member of our club, and his grandfather, Eddie, was a
charter member.
President Louis gave thanks to all the volunteers the
little people, who make the meeting go. |
 |
President elect-elect Chris Parr reminded us of
the forthcoming installation of officers for the club sponsored Rotaract
Club on April 24 at Luther Burbank Center for the Arts. Call Chris for
details. On the same note, President Louis announced that on
April 20, the Board of Supervisors will make a presentation to the newly
formed Rotaract Club. Membership is invited to attend. Call Louis for
details. |
 |
| Past President Mike Moore gave a sunshine
report regarding Ed Burr who broke his ankle participating in
that highly dangerous and challenging sport of no, not skiing, not
tennis, not auto racing, but golf! Some suggested that it had to do
with the high stools in the bar at Charlies at the Windsor course. |
Rotary Presidents meeting will be at Quail Inn at Oakmont at 12:30 PM on
April 23.
President Louis noted that nine dedicated club members attended the
recent District Assembly,
and as usual, a good time was had by all. Some 300 Rotarians attended from
the district.
|
Our ace Foundation Chair Harry Harry in Your Pocket Rubins made
a pitch for the Rotary Foundation and the donation-matching program
funded by the club. Harry will also pitch in ten bucks from his own
pocket to any who participate in the donation drive. |
 |
| The Santa Rosa club is hosting its annual Shrimp Feed
on May 8. Because of the participation of their members in our own crab
feed, President Louis hopes that many will attend. See Louis for
tickets. The Rohnert Park-Cotati club is hosting its 3rd annual Golf
Tournament on April 30, 10:00 AM check-in, 11:00 AM scramble tee-off. |
Tarina Hall, Major Domo of the 2005 Crab Feed called our
attention to suggested themes for that event. Cast your vote. If you
dont like any of the current suggestions, come up with one of your own. |
 |
| David McDonald announced the names of those who
have volunteered to help in the Rebuilding Together volunteer day on
April 24. Raffle:
Tony Stark got to stick his hand into the bag and pull out a
non-black marble. Sorry, Tony! |
 |
Phil Talamantes picked up the bottle of
chardonnay. |
 |
Scholars of the Month: Bob Zeni introduced the
Scholars of the Month, Ben Cree and Suzanne Lopes, both
seniors at Piner High School. |
 |
Program:
 |
Jeri Arnold introduced our program for this week, the
Audio-Video Division Contest, which is conducted at club level. This is
an outgrowth of the District 5130 Communications Contest, which is
currently for speech only. Three groups representing El Molino and Analy
High Schools made their presentations. |
Video #1, Empty Bowls was presented by Ciavan Vejvy of Analy
High School.
Video #2, was the submission of Delya Barrio and Alison Jones
of El Molino High School.
And video #3 was presented by Alex Narbutas, also of El Molino.
|
And the winners are: In first place, winning the $400 prize
was Ciavan Vejvy of Analy, (apparently his video was so
good that we didnt manage to get a still shot of him! -? Ed)
and the 2nd place prize of $200 was split, $100 each going to the team
of Delya Barrio and Alison Jones of El Molino.
El Molino was represented by audio-video instructor Rick Massell,
and Analy by instructor Ann Humphrey, and the judges were Nick
Nicholson of Bank of America, Sheryl Stockton of Sonoma
National Bank, and Tom Laengle of TV50.
Thanks to instructors and judges alike; especial thanks to the
students for their fine efforts; and of course, congratulations to the
winners.
Recognition:
While the votes of the judges were being tallied, President Louis
did not let the audience become restless. Rather, he moved amongst them,
a calming influence much as the cowboy with his restless herd, and
dispensed favors to a luck few. |
|
Chuck Baker was touched for $10 because he couldnt think up any
reason why he shouldnt be fined. |
 |
 |
Bob Harris, also $10, because Louis likes him. |
|
Mike Moore reported on his trip to Vegas and the 7:00 AM wake-up
call from John Meislahn. No fine, since Mike had done such an
especially nice job in standing in for the absent Prez Louis last
week. |
 |
 |
Recently returned from traveling abroad, Joe Perez
introduced a new use for our common flatware

-Ed |
| John Meislahn, who, in ratting out Mike, had
failed to note that he too was in Las Vegas at the same time. In Johns
case he was wrapping up a 2000 mile, 6 day trip in a motor home with his
wife, his kids, his sisters, his cousins and his aunts. Louis dispensed
a credit against fines no one should be fined for a trip like that! |
| John also took his opportunity at the mike to announce
the forthcoming fireside at The Geysers on May 8. (Will the hot dogs be
steam-cooked?) |
 |
 |
John Withers, proud grandpa, borrowed $5 from
Don Ling so he could pay a high five since his grandson is number
five in the nation in foot racing. |
 |
Winners in the contest were announced, and we were dismissed.
