The Chronicles of the
40th Week of the Reign of Good King Louie of Santa Rosa
 |
| The podium bell was sounded by King Louie to
bring the court into session promptly at half past the hour of twelve. |
The salutation to the flag
was led by Sir Harry of Rubins
A thought for the Rotary Moment
was read by Squire Gary Lucas.
Visiting Rotarians from
other realms were introduced by Ed Burr.
|
Ken Barnes, regent to Past President Patsy Barnes,
extended to the court Patsys greetings and reported on the state of her
health. Although her mind remains sharp, Patsy cannot either articulate
words or write. They plan to investigate soon electronic communications
devices which may offer some relief. We all wish Patsy the best. |
 |
 |
| Only Sir John Brown, visiting from the Realm
of Santa Rosa, had a guest to introduce, she being Captain Patty
Rasmussen of the Salvation Army. |

it?), and tickets for the Royal Raffle were sold by Fred Zmarzly. |

program this past weekend. A fine time was had by all, and Ed was
assisted by wife Suzanne, Chris Parr, Terry Galazzo, and Gary
Lucas. Ed is already accepting volunteers for next year. |
| King Louie announced that there will be a
Fireside at the Geysers on Saturday May 8. Loyal subjects are invited to
attend and learn all about the generation of power via a renewable
resource and break bread under the spreading oaks (or steam plume,
whichever applies). |
 |
Mike Moore reported that famous golfer Scott
Bartley had finally had his clubs fitted, and tried them out this
past Sunday. Scores were not revealed. Perhaps Mikes not such a bad guy
after all, eh, Scott? |
Fines and Tributes
 |
The court burst into song with an approximate rendering
of Happy Birthday in recognition of the immediate birthdays of Jim
Sullivan and Brian Herndon. Each was assessed a $10 fee for
entertainment. |
 |
 |
Ralph Lassa was recognized for wife Barbaras
birthday. Five bucks. Gary Bayless thought that Ron Streets
write-up of his program last week was better than the program. |
 |
| Ginny Pitts and Tarina Hall were
welcomed back from their fun trip to Maui. These gals are having
entirely too much fun. |
 |
John Palmer was able to pull out a lovely marble from the bag,
but not the black one. Sorry, John. And Pete Lamonica donated the
bottle of wine back to the case for further aging. |

Bill Gittins introduced our speaker today, but before that he did
an introduction to the subject matter of a new senior center for Santa
Rosa. |
 |
 |
Sy Berkowitz, president of Seniors, Inc. The two
tag-teamed their presentation about Seniors, Inc., whose mission is to
develop the financial resources for the planning, design and
construction of a new senior center for Santa Rosa, a badly needed
structure. |
| The current senior center, housed in a 1928 vintage
schoolhouse on Bennett Valley Road, has a current membership of about
700 seniors out of a population of about 30,000 seniors in the area. The
group estimates that the seniors population will grow to over 60,000 by
the year 2020. Given the fiscal condition of local government, this is
a grass roots effort, although the group is working with the full
cooperation of the city. The envisioned 25,000 square foot facility will
be constructed adjacent to the existing community service building at
Finley Park and would be operated by the city Department of Parks and
Recreation. Current very preliminary projected cost is $8-million, but
Mr. Gittins admits that it might be considerably higher as time passes
and plans develop.
Members of the Seniors, Inc board will be meeting with the presidents
and boards of the several Rotary clubs of Santa Rosa to enlist their
interest in a multi-year funding project similar to that accomplished by
the Santa Rosa West club for the Multi-Cultural Developmental Center.
The meeting was adjourned at 1:25 PM. |
