Announcements
PE Hinton and John Meislahn reminded us that next Monday,
March 15, is dark at noon. However, green beer and Irish corned beef served
by Michele's world-famous chef "Gravy O'Malley" (or someone like him) all
the way from Kilkarney. The annual "drinking o' the green" starts at 6 p.m.
The more you drink, the more tender and succulent the corned beef, I swear
on me mum's gravestone by it!
Hurry, Hurry. The New District Directory will be published in a few weeks
and business card sized ads are on special... only $35 each. Ah, but ye poor
lass, the dead line is Monday March 15. Let's see whats today? Must've been
the drink!?
District 5130 Assembly will be held at the College of the Redwoods in
Fortuna/Eureka on Sat. April 17th. Registration is simple and can be done
online. For members
desiring to make a weekend of it, there's a kick off Fellowship Dinner
Friday evening, the 16th, at the Scotia Inn - 6 p.m. RED BADGE's, any member
who's not previously attended a District Assembly, board members, and the
rest of you are encouraged to attend. Louis' buying.
| Ed Burr announced that he needs 10 to 12
volunteers to assist with Fishing in The City, to be held at Howarth
Park Saturday, April 2nd. Display your fishing prowess to lil' tikes
between 8 a.m. and noon. There's coffee (Irish, Eddy?) and donuts in the
morning, and a "fish" BBQ afterwards. Santa Rosa Rotary Clubs have
supported this California Fish & Game Program for years. So if you are a
new member and you havent participated in any of the many Service
Above Self opportunities that SRWR makes available to you, this could
be the one for you. Its great fun, and you really dont need to know
anything about fishing at all. You just need to show up and help out!
So, support Ed and the kids - call NOW!! Operators are waiting |

Annual Rebuilding Together:
If you can't bait a hook, but you know how to swing a hammer, use a hoe,
or dance a jig...contact David McDonald and sign up for the
annual Rebuilding Together work day on Saturday, April 24th. The
festivities start at 7:30 a.m., but end by 3:30 p.m. Not bad for
building a 4-bedroom, 3-bath house, eh? That David, he's such a good
Irish boy. Just ask his mum. |

The President Elect's Big Weekend
PE James Hinton shared with the club his enthusiasm over his
attendance this past weekend at the PETS (President Elect Training
Seminar) in San Jose. Approximately 450 were in attendance including 100
DGE's, DG's & ADG's from all over Northern California, Northern Nevada,
and Hawaii. I think California's number one "G" must have been in
attendance, too, because PE Jim said he was all "pumped up."
(Hey! Hans & Franz were spotted there too! Ed
J) That's a hint on what all these capital letters mean.
There will be a quiz at the end of next week's meeting. First question:
How many green beers did you drink? |
Recognition:
| Past DG, Mike Merrill, (another hint - no
cheating and remember the 4 way test) was fined $50 for going skiing
instead of attending PETS and not knowing the significance of February
23, 2005. Mike felt so guilty he doubled the fine to $100 in honor of
Rotary International's 100th birthday! |
 |
| Ever the world traveler, John Hathaway was fined
$15 for spending 2 months in the desert. Instead of returning with a
tablet or the Blarney Stone, he showed up with a tan from all the golf
he played at Palm Desert. |
 |
 |
Gary Leopold was also fined $15 for his trip to New
Zealand. Said he traveled from the northern tip to the southern tip and
didn't see one Leprechaun. |
Raffle:
 |
| It was time to draw the marble. Since King Louis
took the bag with him to N'awlins a white paper bag was substituted.
It didn't help Terry Galazzo draw the black marble. Bob
Reinking received the Green bottle of wine. |
Program
 |
Susan Nowacki introduced our speaker, Judge
Arnold Rosenfield. Judge Rosenfeld has been a judge in the Juvenal
Court since 1985. His topic was about Restorative Justice. |
 |
The Restorative Justice Program attempts to help children become
productive citizens by encouraging them to take responsibility for their own
actions. Many of Sonoma County's 600 to 700 juveniles in the system have
deep-seated emotional issues resulting from all kinds of abuse. Most
troubled juveniles don't have sound family connections or any type of
"authoritative community" to guide them, so they end up joining gangs or
engaging in other undesirable activities.
One example that has helped children connect to community is the use of
work camps. Seventeen children were paired with contractors in Bend, Oregon,
last year, where they helped build three homes with Habitat for Humanity.
The children were proud to be included in a ceremony where the keys to the
homes were presented to their new "owners." Hopefully, Sonoma County will
follow suit with similar programs. The judge recommends the book
Hardwired to Connect as a source to understand the problems we face
today.
Meeting adjourned.
