Back to the Los Robles...Oh Goody!
 |
| President Mike began yet
another meeting, and after missing a week of fabulous Los Robles
food, we have returned. Let the merriment begin. |
For those of you who attended the Veteran's Program last week, what
about trying to get Sam's for Play Café to provide boxed lunches for our
weekly meeting? But I digress...must be the rotten lemons in the bowl
beside that container of iced tea.
Pledge:
Terry Galazzo where are you??? Oh! Banks are closed today
.
Good thing banker John Meislahn was there in his casual best to
fill in, ably assisted by his son Max, who will be turning four in two
weeks! (Nice Dad - nothing like a nice father/son day attending a Rotary
meeting.

Rotary Moment:
 |
Judith Light read a quotation from Winston
Churchill (boy, did Mr. Dansie perk up at that!) some very
profound words with great relevancy to the world today. |
Bulletin: Me...
Introduction of Visiting
Rotarians:
Scott Bartley, no, wait...Mike Moore, no wait...it's Bill
Dodson.
Announcements:
| Harry Rubins could hardly control his
excitement - Mr. President, Mr. President! He wanted to assure the
club that he deposited all the ticket stubs from the Foundation
Raffle in the barrel on Saturday night. Unfortunately, nobody in
the club won anything...damn. I would have re-donated the famous
Mary Farha painting, if I had known that no one in our club would
get stuck with it. Oh, someone did win something: $1000and guess
who? President Mike, of course! |
 |
| There was some discussion about whether
it was dedicated to a Paul Harris Fellowship or just cash. No
problem. Either way, President Mike is donating the $1000
back to Harry to give to the Foundation. Good going, Mr.
President. To quote Mr. Marigo: "That's a stupid
thing to do!" |
 |
Bill Dodson reminded us that he is always
looking for good members to help him with some of the tasks during
the meeting, like introducing visitors, acting as cashier, pledge
etc.. Let Bill know that you appreciate the hard work he is
putting into this job, by giving him a hand. |
| Ginny Pitts wanted to thank the Club for their
participation in the Veteran's Program last Thursday. It was a great
success and plans are already underway for next year. Ginny
urged all members to find a Veteran to bring to the lunch next year.
And job well done, Ginny, as our representative on the
organizational committee. And serving as official greeter.
BTW, Mr. Dansie is hurt that he seems to have been the
only man to come to the event that didn't get a hug and a kiss. |
 |
| Jim Benoit now has Crab Feed Raffle tickets
available. The tickets are $10 each or $80 for 10. All members are
assigned 10 tickets to either buy themselves or sell. Jim will have
your tickets at the next 4 meetings, if you don't pick them up by
then, expect a phone call from him. The grand prize will be a
diamond tennis bracelet (a rather sexist prize, I might add, but
that's ok, I'll sell it on eBay when I win). |
 |
| Not that this matters, if you don't know Rich
Pratt is hosting a fireside social at his office at 90 S. E
Street this Thursday. If you weren't there, you lost out. |
 |
The monthly Association of Sonoma County Rotary clubs meeting is
November 21st. if you are interested in going let Mike or Fred
know.
 |
President Mike is looking for someone to help
organize the Salvation Bell Ringing for the club this year. Chuck
Baker will assist, but does not want to be in charge again this
year. Some discussion ensued and in the end, David McDonald
stepped up to the plate to take over.
He has one half dozen volunteers already, but wants more help!
Come on guys (and gals) get out there and share the holiday spirit.
It only takes an hour to do and you get a chance to spend some
quality time with a fellow Rotarian. Also all you red badgers, you
are EXPECTED to sign up! |
 |
Gail Johnson introduced Jaffa, our
exchange student from Brasilia, Brazil. She told the club about her
life in Brazil, and passed out some photographs showing life there.
She is thrilled to be visiting this country and for those of
you that care, she loves the food...Monday lunches excepted. (Just
imagine coming to this country for the first time and being exposed
to Los Robles food! Scary J -Ed) |
President Mike thanked Gail for hosting the new member
social last Thursday night at her house. Even though it was a stormy
night, the turnout was good, with both old and new members sharing
fellowship.
Recognition:
OK, where do I begin with this one? Or how do I begin with this one? Or
why do I begin with this one? For a moment I thought I had been
transported to the Breakfast Club.
| First fine of the day: would Louie Capuano
please stand up! So, Louie, I understand you were treated to a night
at the theater in San Francisco. I understand the play was themed
around the male genitalia. Um well, you certainly got Bob Marigo's
attention with that one. Especially when Louie said he was
"roped" into going to it. Gosh, Louie, I didn't
know you were into that kind of stuff! |
 |
Needless to say, Louie does not recommend the play, but he was
more than willing to pick up his winnings from the raffle two weeks ago
when he won big. Big, another unfortunate choice of words, but as they
say, "It's not the size of the wand that counts". For those of
you that want more information about Louie's theater going
experience, click here.
| Paula Wrenn, stood up proud to be recognized
after the preceding for a new article in Sonoma Business on Women
and their Wealth. |
 |
 |
| Bill Fisher was recognized for having lived
almost as long as Don Ling. Yeah, but Don has more
hair. |
Speaking of Mr. Ling, he was recognized for his trip down the
Columbia River and also for his birthday in two weeks. He offered to pay
his fine now as he will be lying on the beach in Hawaii then. A very
generous $100.
 |
Gail Johnson...again?? Gail was fined
for not being able to attend the Foundation Dinner on Saturday
night. Seems she was all worn out from attending the Rolling Stones
concert at PacBell Park on Friday. She said it was a great concert,
even with her seats three rows from the top of the stadium - $20
fine. Personally, I think that would be a good spot. From that
distance you probably can't see the stuff stuck in the creases in
Keith Richards' face. |
And for you trivia buffs, Ken Dansie attended the same school as
Mick. Let's see, that would be the East North Humpington Academy for
Chartered Accountants in Training. (That was good, Scott! J
-Ed)
Raffle:
 |
| Tom Laengle tried his best to win what is
left of the now decimated pot. Unfortunately, there are too many
marbles in there now. Oh well, better luck next time. |
Richard Standard won the bottle of wine. I'm sure he will put it
to good use!
Program:
 |
Today's program was Ernesto Olivares, an
officer with the Santa Rosa Police Department and a member of the
Commission on Human Rights for Sonoma County. He represents the
3rd supervisorial district on the Commission.
Mr. Olivares gave us a presentation of their
efforts to make Santa Rosa a "Hate Free Community." The
program is an ambitious one, with the single goal of stopping all
hate crimes in the city, and therein disrupting of the
"Pyramid of Hate." |
He showed the club a short video describing the problems and the
program in more detail, and then asked that all members of the club join
in the pledge to work to make it come true. He also asked that the Club as
an organization become a life member of the program.
