Our Greeter:
Gary Bayless introduced our visiting Rotarians including a member from Pennsylvania.

Ticket Sales:
Bill Dodson sold the winning ticket, among many other tickets in Harry Rubin's absence because Harry was selling Rotary Foundation Celebration raffle tickets a short distance away.

Guests:
Bob Zeni introduced Jan Hansen of Piner High School. Jan is a counselor and escorted our two star students from Piner.

Announcements:
President Mike read all the names of those who attended last Thursday's Association Meeting. It took a long time because so many of our chapter attended the event. Mike gave thanks for the support. Once again, we all make Mike look good in the eyes of the District. Special thanks to Chris Parr, Gary Lucas, Caroline Fox and Bob Marigo for all of their work to put on a very successful event.

Ginny Pitts Ginny Pitts announced that November 7th would be the Tribute to our Veterans at (guess where), the Veterans Memorial Building. Please plan on attending (we are dark November 4th) and if you don't have a veteran to accompany you, ask Ginny to help. She also has the tickets.

There was great confusion but we finally got this straight. There will be a New Member Party at Gail Johnson's house on November 7.

Rich Pratt will host a Fireside Social at his office at 90 'E' Street on November 14. Wasn't that easy? Please plan on attending both.

Jim Hinton told us that Rotary Grant Applications can be downloaded from our website and must be turned in before December 31. All of last year's applicants have been notified by mail. Jim Hinton

Fred Zmarzly says that the roster is in three-ring format again for those who prefer it that way. He also suggested that those with outstanding financial obligations to our Rotary Chapter had better pay up or else.

Rick Rybicki (more on him later) announced that he needs volunteers to help out at our club's annual involvement with the Fishing In The City Program. You'll have fun teaching Biella Elementary School fifth graders how to fish at Lake Ralphine on November 16. Apparently, pulling young fisherpersons out of the lake after they have fallen in is very popular.

Randy Seelye of the Downtown Club and our current Assistant District Governor presented Past President Brian Herndon with belated awards from last years District Conference. We won a FIRST award for our International Service Projects and a SECOND award for our website. Brian insisted we give ourselves a hand, which we did. Jim Hinton and Jim Valinoti get two hands! Mr. Hinton took the opportunity to explain what some of our international projects accomplish. Really nice to hear those things.

Bob Zeni reminded us that he has the tickets for the Crab Feed. Reserve a table before they are sold out.

Student Recognition!!!!

Janelle Wong Mr. Zeni presented Janelle Wong and Craig Gardina from Piner High School who were chosen as our Outstanding Students of the Month for October. They will compete for our two Albert Biella Academic Scholarships later next year.

Janelle loves school, a lot! She does a lot of volunteering, wants to become a bio engineer to cure diseases and will apply to UC Berkeley. Chris is president of the math and Spanish clubs, wants to become an electrical engineer and will apply to Stanford. In spite of their choice of schools, we hope they remain friends and we wish them the best of luck.

Recognition:

Phil Talamantes was fined $25 for attending a REPUBLICAN political event. For a die hard Democrat the fine was easier to put up with than the constant ribbing he is getting. Elections are November 5th. Vote early and vote often (not on the same day of course).

Phil Talamantes

Rick Rybicki Remember Rick Rybicki during announcements? Well, guess who got to go to ALL of the World Series games with his partner. Not that it did our team any good, mind you, but he did say he experienced a lot of serious choking in the seventh inning of Game 6 in Anaheim. Our Pres fined him $5 a game and Rick threw in another $100 to the Foundation because he's a nice guy.

Pete Lamonica, who we last saw winning $50 a quarter for three quarters of the football pool at the Bartley BBQ, has just returned from hiding in Italy.

President Mike made him an offer he couldn't refuse and extracted $100 from his winnings. Welcome back!

President Mike

Bob Marigo came up with $203 to the Foundation in recognition of 45 years of marriage to Dolores (aka The Angel or St. 'D').

Dave Wattell remembered his wife's birthday but it cost him $5 anyway.

Neil Silverman has spent the last month teaching photography classes in southern Utah. He strongly urged us to go there sometime to enjoy the beauty. $25, thank you.

Bill Gittins Bill Gittins: Apparently missing from the recognitions this week was our own Billy G. I can't imagine that his very successful "One Man Show" this past weekend at the Equis Restaurant went unnoticed, especially since many of us were there to share in Bill's artful success! Dodged another bullet, eh, Bill? -Ed J

Joe Perez: Well, with a picture like this one it would have been a mistake not to include it in the bulletin. Apparently Joe was also missing in action on the recognition billboard...fielder's choice on this one, President Mike. -EdJ Joe Perez

Raffle:

Louie Capuano Louie Capuano has done it again!!!! He picked the marble that earned him $400. John Palmer won the bottle of wine.

Program:

Harry Rubins reminded us that the Rotary Foundation Celebration will be held at the Herzog Building on the Petaluma Fairgrounds on November 9 and the time, 6:00. The ticket price is $50, and there will be silent and live auctions as well as the usual raffle. There will be great food, gracious hors d'oeuvres, a hosted wine bar as well as an unhosted bar.

Harry Rubins

The proceeds will be allocated for The Rotary Foundation or to Polio Eradication as the buyer chooses. Harry then introduced our own member and Past District Governor, Mike Merrill. Mike gave us a slide show to educate our new members and remind our old members about how the foundation works.
