Susan Nowacki announced the Open House at Rich Pratt's office

Janet Codding: New Member Party at Gail Johnson's home on
11/07.

almost sold out; sign up NOW. The meeting is to be held at the Wild Oak
Saddle Club on Thursday, October 24. Contact Bob Marigo for
tickets.
Community Fund Board meeting was announced by Immediate Past Brian
Herndon for just after the meeting. It should be done by the time you read
this!
| FINES:
Bill Gittins: Recognized for his Harvest Fair
accomplishments. Bill won two firsts and two seconds, plus a BEST OF
SHOW for his medium (acrylics). Bill announced his showing at the
Equus Restaurant this Sunday, October 27th. $5 Fine. |
 |
Bill Fisher: Ann's Birthday. President Mike played with
him a bit. Typical Fisher. He thought Ann's BD was Jan 10...that was the
other one
(Oops J -Ed)
Jim Hinton: Back from Italy, various places. The trip took 28
days. Fine: $30.
 |
John Hathaway: President Mike talked about
John's low profile in the Club. It turns out that he followed Jim
Hinton around Italy. $30 |
| Kyle Stelling: Thanked the Club for the
donation for his newborn child. His child does not have a Social
Security Number as yet, so the donation hasn't been completed as far
as deposition in an account. He noted that the Club only raised
$249, instead of the $349 report by Fred. Fred
received a bit of hassle. President Mike: "Fred talk to
me after the meeting!" |
 |
We have the opportunity to hear the current RI Pres in Monterrey, CA,
this coming January. The Club needs to know by end of month if you want to
attend. The presentation will be January 3rd.
Arnie Carston: Complemented on his shirt. No fine.
| Rich Pratt: Researched and leased a high speed
copier and fax machine. He thought that Discovery should be fined. President
Mike agreed he'd like to pay the fine. Amount not disclosed, at
least this scribe didn't get the amount. |
 |
 |
Ginny Pitts: Commented regarding tickets for
the Vets meeting on November 7. She has lots of tickets left.
Contact her if you desire to attend. All Rotary Clubs will be dark
that week for this event. The event also includes Kiwanis Clubs in
the Santa Rosa area. |
President Mike asked for confessions (low on
fining material):
Jim Hinton paid tribute to Peter Lamonica, who was Jim's
host in Sicily. He provided a wonderful first hand tour that
culminated with a family feast. There were 25 members of Peter's
family still living in Sicily that enjoyed this repast. Pete is
still there. Is he coming back? |
 |
| Raffle:
For $375: David McDonald...wrong ticket.
Lori Burmeyer: Invisible Wine Bottle. Lori was
fined for coming to the first meeting in a few months ($25). Really
good to see you, Lori!
|
 |
| President Mike then asked Lori to
confess for any other finable issues. She volunteers at the schools
for her kids. She has a high school Freshman and a first grader.
She pointed out to President Mike that both kids have the
same father, her husband. Mike left the fine at $25 for
coming to the meeting. |

Program:
 |
Paula Wrenn introduced the guest speaker, Bill
Montgomery. He spoke pertaining to the Historic Tours of the
Santa Rosa Cemetery.
He called it a "Deadly Undertaking" and pointed out
that two or our more common idioms come from cemeteries:
|
1. Saved by the Bell: a phrase coming from Old England where people
were not infrequently inadvertently buried by mistake. A cord was tied
around the wrist of the corpse connected to a bell. If the body began to
move, the bell would ring. This led to the...
2. Graveyard shift, for the person who listened for the bell for the
first couple of days after burial.
Bill talked first about the restoration of the cemetery and then
discussed the history of the people buried there. It was a fascinating
program. Tours of the cemetery are available and are very well done, as
attested to by several members of the Club.
Overall, a very enjoyable meeting.
