Carson Mitchell stepped up to the plate and
gave us our moment. |
| Scott Bartley introduced our visiting Rotarians
from the Santa Rosa Club and from other exotic places. I apologize
for not catching everyone's name. Guests for the day included Victoria
Summers, Ann Crew and Steve Wright (new member). |

Annual "Honor our Veterans" Event for only $15.
The event will be held at the Veterans Memorial Auditorium on

Contact Ginny if you need the name of a veteran to invite. |
On the same date but in the evening at 5:30 PM, Gail Johnson
will host a "NEW" Member Party at her home located at 365
Gemma Circle in Santa Rosa. Please call 538-5669 to let her know that you
are coming and for directions. NEW Members are requested to attend.
How can we get to know you, if you don't show up? A get together at Gail's
is always fun, so be there and get acquainted.
| Bob Marigo reported that our Club is hosting
the Association Dinner on Thursday, Oct. 24th at the Wild Oak Saddle
Club starting at 5:30 pm. The presentation topic is "How to
put on a successful fundraiser". All Club members are
invited to attend at no cost. What a deal and a great way to
meet other Rotarians from the other clubs. Call and make your
reservations now! |

President Mike announced that Bruce Campbell from the
Sebastopol Sunrise Club has been named DGEE (District Governor
Elect-Elect). Congratulations, Bruce! Rotary license plates are on
sale. They cost $75 each but $50 goes to our club. Pretty good deal.
Deadline is 12/31/02. President Mike will send out details via email.
 |
Chris Parr-Feldman announced that the Poyntless
Sisters would be appearing at the 20th Annual CRAB Feed!
We're going to shake our shoulders, wiggle our hips and stomp our
feet all night. The CRAB Committee will be meeting at the
Grace Pavilion this Thursday morning at 8:30 a m. There are choice
positions open for volunteers. What have you signed up for? Sign
up now or be volunteered to the clean-up committee. Only kidding...but
hurry - we need you, we want you. |
Induction of New Member
| Caroline Fox introduced Steve Wright
from Edward Jones Investments. Steve was born and raised in Montana
and only just arrived in Santa Rosa about eight years ago. He and
his wife, Patty, are expecting their first born in late November. He
attended Montana State University majoring in business management.
His hobbies include camping, hiking and playing with his two dogs.
Better play with them a lot
after the baby arrives you might not
have enough time. |
 |
Welcome! We hope that your Rotary experience will be a wonderful one.
Please feel free to call upon any of our members if you have questions or
concerns. Thank you Caroline for sponsoring a new member. We appreciate
it.
A FINE Time
Paula Wrenn - the article wasn't about her. She wrote a piece
for Sonoma Business Magazine. No fine, but Paula announced that the
"Shoe" program was going well. Our club donated $8,000 to the
program.
 |
Arnie Carston - missing in action? He bid on
the Merrill's apartment in San Francisco and loved it so much that
he and Gayle decided to move to the city. He bought a place on
Russian Hill where he watched and could feel the thunder of the Blue
Angels this past weekend. He sold the house in Santa Rosa and
because they were between places (homeless), they went to Hawaii.
Wow! Will you adopt me? Okay...$100 toward his Paul Harris. Thank
you on behalf of the Foundation and congratulations on your new home
away from home. |
| John Withers offered some speaker tickets for
the evening. No takers! Well, what did you expect with the GIANTS
playing to see if they get to go to the World Series and the 49'rs
also playing tonight. Thank you anyway, John. We hope someone was
able to use them. |
 |
 |
| Bob Zeni had a birthday. Happy Birthday to
you! |
Tarina Hall - Welcome back from Oaxaca, Mexico, where the
pre-Colombian ruins are, and where she took cooking lessons in Hispanic
culinary delights. $20 for mentioning goat shavings. What was that about?
By the way, what are you planning to do with these culinary skills you
have perfected?
 |
Gil Lucas flew to Las Vegas in his own plane.
Stayed at the "Hard Rock" and felt a little out of place
with all of the 20-something crowd. Went to the "VooDoo"
Lounge and found LV very pretty at night. Everything is pretty in
dim light...that's why we have candles. $10 and he didn't gamble
much. |
| Ralph Lassa attended a Rotary meeting in Half
Moon Bay where there were no women. Must have been boring? |
 |
 |
Ray Mattison had a birthday last week. $5 went
to Monterey for 5 days for a State Bar Convention. The place was
crawling with lawyers. |
RAFFLE
| Marvin Hyman got the chance, but pulled the
wrong marble. Darn! I hate when that happens. Chris Parr-Feldman
had the lucky ticket for the bottle of white wine. Yum! Thank you. |

SPEAKER
 |
Paula Wrenn introduced our very own, Janet
Codding, as our speaker for the day. Janet had so much information
to share that I will try to hit the highlights. Here goes...her
topic began with an explanation of "free radicals." |
Free radicals include sunlight, stress, pollution, x-rays,
radioactivity, airline travel, medications, foods, environmental
chemicals, and the biggest one, smoking (which equals 10 billion free
radicals per cigarette. YUK!) Clearly these are not the "good
guys."
Antioxidants are the good guys and can reduce your exposure. Stop smoking, use sunscreen, avoid
polluted areas and improve your defense by eating 5 servings per day of
fruits and vegetables, or take supplements. "Did you eat your 5
fruits and vegetables today?" Antioxidants can stop free radicals
from doing damage. Antioxidants sacrifice themselves to neutralize free
radicals on a daily basis.
This was just a small portion of all the information Janet shared with
us. I know that she would be happy to answer any of your questions, or get
more information by checking out her
web site. (the
original text of the speaker's program first published was
subsequently edited, per the request of the speaker)
That's all for now folks! Remember to start thinking about your
"Roaring 20's" costume
for the 20th Annual CRAB Feed! We're giving prizes for
"BEST" individual male and female costume and a prize for the
"BEST" dressed couple in costume. By now, hopefully, all of you
have received your donation letters. Please be generous and if you know
someone who would like to donate a silent or live auction item, please let
us know. Thank you to those who have already volunteered and donated.
Thank you for the opportunity to serve as your Bulletin Reporter.
Chris Parr-Feldman signing off...
