A Visit from Our District Governor

President Michael Moore
President Michael Moore called the meeting to order on time and with his style of humor that we have come to love.

He did make some comments about the Press Democrat being at fault for telling all who subscribe that Secretary Perry would be our speaker on September 9th. PDG John Withers assured us that the PD published a retraction. Sorry you guys who drove down from Lakeport. But District Governor Terri probably bumped the good Secretary because she has such a tight schedule.

Pledge:
Gary Bayless
led us in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Rotary Moment and Ticket Sales:
First, Bill Dodson sold tickets with Tarina Hall's help, and then he did the Rotary moment. All thought that his Rotary Moment was modern and fresh, until he revealed that the author was some Italian guy who died about 400 years before Paul Harris founded Rotary. How Machiavellian.

Our Greeter:

New member Jack Bill introduced the visiting Rotarians. No enunciation errors so no fine. Good job, Bill. Looking forward to your craft talk.

Jack Bill

Visitors:
Caroline Fox introduced Steve Wright from Edw. Jones & Co. and Karla Logue from Celadon Gifts & Gift Baskets.
Judith Light introduced Diane Huntley from North Bay Business Magazine.
Gail Johnson's guest was Erica _____ from Calif. Mortgage.

Doug Dilley had the early setup and late cleanup duties. Check the end of each bulletin for the Club Service Internal Recognition Roster and offer he and his partner Dave McDonald a break.

Director of Club Service Bill Dodson Also, offer to fill in a few of the other empty slots to make life a bit easier for our Director of Club Service Bill Dodson.

Announcements:
Jeff Ray is the proud owner of two new stents. The work was done at SR Memorial and he should be home by now. He was anxious to leave right after the procedure, but they made him wait a few days. And we want him back soon so that we can show our appreciation for all of his golf tournament work.

Chris Parr
Chris Parr reminds us of the Crab Feed Committee meeting next Monday.

Janet Codding and the Membership Committee met at her house tonight.

Gail's husband, Windsor Rotarian Don Johnson, asked us to be on the lookout for prospective GSE team members for the upcoming GSE tour to Vietnam.

The best candidates must be between ages 25 and 40, and will gain the most if they have a background in water, fisheries or aquaculture. This will be the first ever GSE team to go to a non-Rotarian country but the way has been paved by our Club and District water project participants who have worked in Viet Nam.

Don Johnson

Lucky and generous Paul Schwartz, who pulled the $775 black marble last week, accepted his check and immediately pledged $175 to SOS!

Bulletin Editor Jim Valinoti sent regrets about missing the District Governor's two-day presence with our club. Jim and Terri Clark were fellow District 5130 Club Presidents for the year 1997-1998 and here Terri is District Gov.

Bill Fisher
It wasn't clear who originally owned four great Giants-Dodgers tickets for the game at Pac Bell Park tonight that were offered at auction. Bill Fisher appeared to be donor spokesman. President Mike sold the first two tickets to Gary Bayless for a $60 donation.

Ken Dansie

The second pair went to Ken Dansie for a discounted price of $50 because he claimed to be the original owner who was re-buying his own tickets. I hope they find out who is on first.

Recognition:

Chuck Stark turned in a perfectly serviceable 6 cylinder SUV for a small roadster made by Mercedes Benz. It is nice to get one of those mega-toys before you get arthritis. He donated $100 to Polio Plus. Chuck Stark

Ron Allen Ron Allen, our second to youngest member is one year older. $5 for the birthday and Ron tossed in another $40 for a trip to Hawaii.

Our youngest member, Kyle Stelling, and his significant other are hoping that their baby will arrive on Friday the 13th, when he turns age 27. Kyle Stelling

Gary Lucas A cell phone rang in the middle of announcements. Who else but one of our phone guys? Gary Lucas was fined $10 for his second offense and ordered to take remedial phone training from senior phone guy (SPG) Ken Kushner. Then Gary was recognized for his wife's birthday on 9/10, son's on 9/11 and daughter's on 9/19. $5 more for the triple header.

Chris Rosell Chris Rosell is 52 tomorrow (Sept. 10th) and still looking fit. $5, please.

Chris Parr traveled the Caribbean on the Monarch of the Seas. During a future Club meeting recognition period, her four lady Rotarian fellow travelers surely will be recognized for the same $50 fine that Chris paid with a smile. Or, maybe they could get a discount if they identify themselves before the president does.

On September 16th Secretary Perry will speak, thanks to John Withers, so we hear. Check the PD or the Club web site for the latest news.

The Bartley BBQ is September 23rd. Don't show up at the Los Robles that noon, but join the fun that night.

Program:

Our District Governor, Terri ClarkOur District Governor, Terri Clark, was introduced by Windsor Rotarian Maureen McDaniel, while husband, PDG Mike Merrill watched from the audience, cheering both.

Governor Clark is a Humboldt State graduate, active in alumni affairs and in accounting. She gave a wonderful and inspirational talk about her personal experience with the four avenues of Rotary service. Her first introduction to Rotary was when she was honored with a Vocational Award from the Southwest Eureka Rotary Club. She was very impressed by what Rotary did for her community and for the world community and let her host know that she wanted to become a member. She talked about her early Rotary experiences and the importance of new Rotarians doing Club Service projects, i.e. bulletin editor where you learn quickly how to spell the names of fellow members and get to know them personally.

Governor Terri covered her experiences with club Community Service, telling us about Evergreen Lodge and the Festival of Brotherhood. While talking about International Service, she reemphasized the good works done by this District in Viet Nam and what is ahead for the GSE team that will be appointed soon.
Be sure to reserve the first week in May, 2003 for the District 5130 Conference, it will be held at the River Lodge in beautiful Fortuna.
