Our Greeter:
John Withers introduced our visiting Rotarians in a manner only John can accomplish with such eloquence. Ticket Sales: Ginny Pitts handled ticket sales nicely. Guests: Lou Capuano introduced Lou Capuano III. Bob Marigo introduced Ed Burr again. Rotarian of the Year: Past President Ken Kurshnir had the pleasure of introducing a member who has been called upon to accomplish a great many tasks, always has done so willingly, is himself a Past President, Past Chair of the Crab Feed, serves on the Humane Society Board, has contributed to his community through many years of volunteering on various Santa Rosa boards and commissions and is generally a really nice guy. Our Rotarian of the Year is Scott Bartley!!! Congratulations and thank you for all you have done for Rotary. Free meals for a year!!! Announcements: Future President (in one week) Lou Capuano has formed a committee to review our food program at Los Robles Lodge. If you have any comments or concerns contact Lou or Bob Marigo. Polo for Polio will be held August 10 at the Luther Burbank Center. Harry Rubins has tickets for the event at $30 apiece. Our District Governor has indicated that our Rotary Foundation contributions have increased 60% over the same period last year. Pat yourself on the back for a well-deserved praise. Don and Gail Johnson, Jim and Carolyn Hinton and Frank and Cela Rogers are hosting a farewell party for our departing Exchange Student, Ms. Rafaela Magalhaes e Silva, on July 8 at 5:30 PM. The address is 365 Gemma Circle, Santa Rosa. RSVP at 636-0770 or 538-5669. And, last but not least, dont forget the Dunking, er, Debunking at the Wikiup Swim and Tennis Club on Sunday July 13. Be sure to sign up for the various needs of the event. Starts at 5:30. Recognition: Jim Sullivans son was married recently at the Sullivan Estate. Everything was just dandy until a Mercedes catalytic converter caught the grassy parking area on fire which quickly consumed two other cars and Jims sons Explorer. Jim said it was a hot wedding. Cant argue that one. It cost Jim $20 anyway. President Lame Duck Mike paid particular recognition to Chuck Stark who returned from Brisbane (RI Convention and vacation time) a happy traveler. He enjoyed two birthdays because of the International Date Line (not something on the internet!) so Mike fined him $25 whereupon Chuck passed it on to his father, Tony. What a guy! Ray Madison was fined $35 for being appointed to a three-year term on the American Society of Appraisers Board of Directors. Von Von der Mehden was fined $5 because his cell phone went off last week during our meeting. Roger Olson went to Oregon for a nieces graduation and then to Santa Cruz for his wifes birthday. He contributed $25 anyway. Raffle: Jim Sullivan had ticket 410006 but didnt pick the marble; Jim Benoit had 410095 and won the bottle of wine that he graciously donated back to the club. Program: Kaye Martin is a practitioner of Feng Shui, which is the art of placement, particularly in buildings. She has two teachers whom she studies with, neither speaks English, but they get along fine, apparently. As near as I could tell (mind you I was busy taking notes) it is a process whereby you take care of your Ba-Gua which is something that I dont understand, but it has to be centered somehow or your wealth leaks out and your toilet is supposed to be in the Family or Children part of the house. That much I got, but you also cant have missing areas, but you can use mirrors to keep your wealth in and if you hang chimes, that is good, too! If youre as confused as I am, you may benefit by contacting Kaye at 576-0923 or try the American Feng Shui Institute at http://www.amfengshui.com/
