President Mike was so excited! He could hardly wait to remind us about the upcoming District Conference. (And in spite of the fact that he did this from a complete state of total meditation, we just somehow knew that it would take place from May 1st to 4th, up in beautiful Fortuna. PE Louie and PEE Jim, hopefully by the time you have completed as many months as President Mike has, you too will be able to divine such things....J -Ed)

Make your hotel reservations now, or soon, before it’s too late.

Jeri Arnold Many thanks to Jeri Arnold for organizing the speech and video contest program devoted to “polio eradication”.

And to Anne Abrams (Lisa Greenfield seen behind Anne) for hosting a fireside get together at the Multi-cultural Child Development Center on April 10. Anne Abrams & Lisa Greenfield

Fine Times

Harry Rubins Harry Rubins contributed $100 to the Rotary Foundation and he reminded us that until May 1 you can receive dollar-for-dollar matching funds for $100 or more. What a guy!

Judith Light was fined for having her picture in the Sonoma Business Magazine (she used to work there) and now she is a VBP at Redwood Merchant Services, a division of the National Bank of the Redwoods. Congratulations and thank you for $25. Judith Light

John Palmer was pictured on the front cover of the SRJC Bulletin for organic gardening. What kind of plants was he trying to grow? Oh, yes, of course, John was hoping to learn something new in gardening, that’s all. John Palmer

Jim Benoit Jim Benoit was fined $5 for something. He wasn’t born in April and neither is his wife. What was it?

Ralph Lassa $5 and Gary Lucas $10 were fined for their wives’ birthdays. Gary Lucas

Aries Birthday fines - so many Aries in this Club. Profile: Aries is the first sign of the zodiac, and that’s pretty much how those born under this sign see themselves: first. Also called pioneers of the zodiac, it’s their fearless trek into the unknown which often wins the day. They also have great bounds of energy and dynamism and are considered the Pied Piper of their people. I could go on with this but I can’t stand it anymore. (Thank you, Linda Goodman.J-Ed)

PP Brian Herndon (b/d 4/05) was taken on a surprise birthday trip to Reno/Lake Tahoe/Las Vegas to see Celine Dion and other wonderful surprises. A dollar for each year of his life making it $60 to the Foundation.

PDG Mike Merrill (b/d 4/10) bought a new convertible Audi 84 and is looking for a plane. Did the convertible make you want to fly? All that fresh air blowing through your hair, or do you have a sun hat to protect your head? Thank you for your contribution of $100 to the Foundation. PDG Mike Merrill

Bryan Jamar (b/d 4/15) $5. Bryan Jamar

Jim Sullivan Jim Sullivan (b/d 4/05) received something red for his birthday. What was it? $5.

Chris Parr-Feldman Chris Parr-Feldman (b/d 4/12) had a wild and wonderful party put on by her friends. Taking advantage of Harry Rubins' offer to match
$-for-$, she contributed $100 to the Foundation.

Gary Lucas’ birthday is on the 22nd, making him a Taurus, which is a whole other story. Thank you all for being such good sports and for your contributions.

Raffle

Speaker

Lee Torliatt Jimmy Underhill introduced our guest speaker, Lee Torliatt, Sonoma County Historian. Mr. Torliatt’s new book, Sports Memories of Sonoma County, weaves a sports history of time gone by.

He shared stories of the 1890’s when football was more like rugby. Most remarkable teams of the time (1930’s) were Santa Rosa High School with Petaluma High as their rivals. The Petaluma Leghorns were a semi pro team.

Softball was popular in the 1930’s, and Healdsburg was the best in track and field at that time. Mr. Torliatt’s next book will cover air history in Sonoma County. For more information you can contact him at: Torliatt@aol.com

That’s it for now folks…….Chris Parr-Feldman signing off…
