Call to Order

President Michael Moore Ah, doesn't President Michael Moore look relaxed? Now that the Crab Feed is over President Mike doesn't have anything to do for the rest of the year but run the meeting…….Oh and worry about what we are going to do with him and his remains at the debunking.

Pledge:

Ray Schofield where are you??? Luckily Past Pres Brian Herndon could remember most of it and the location of the flag.

Rotary Moment:

Chris Parr gave thanks that the Crab Feed didn't crash and burn...and also thanks to all her Crab Heads who pulled the event off!

Visiting Rotarians:

Louis Capuano. (My God, is Louie all right????) I mean he has lost a lot of weight just since Saturday night. And what happened to his hair????? He almost looks like Bill Fisher!!! Oh wait, it is Bill Fisher...whew!

Announcements:

THE CRAB FEED IS DONE!!!!!
Chris Parr and her Co-Chair Gary Lucas did an excellent job getting the event organized, and pulling it off! President Mike offered his thanks to them and everyone involved. GREAT JOB!

Ad-libbing, The Pres offered thanks to those who helped out with the event. A dangerous thing to do for you may forget someone that way - such as the bulletin reporter - and then be treated to a three-page listing of expletives instead of recognition of those who helped out. But luckily, President Mike remembered at the end of the meeting to fill in a few of those gaps. Unfortunately, I was busy writing down the expletives and missed what Mike was saying. Anyway, my short list of people who helped out with the event, which will be supplemented by Co-Chairs Parr & Lucas as soon as they catch their breath:

Co-Chairs Chris & Gary of course for keeping the whole event organized and on track.

Tarina Hall for organizing the best silent auction we have ever had, both in the quality of the items and the efficient organization of it. She had mentors Terry Galazzo and Ginny Pitts among others for backup support.

Arnie Carston for doing his usual great job with the live auction. By my count we grossed around $43,000 from 26 items! Not bad!

Bill Dodson with his able (and former member) assistant Noel Buehler for doing the food. The crab was great and plentiful and Bill had those scouts working like a well-oiled machine.

Bob Marigo for Check-in, along with Bob (Mr. Tickets) Zeni for organizing and executing a smooth check in process. Bob was ably assisted by greeters Janet Codding, Mike Merrill, and others who I do not know, but you do and rest assured you will get recognized.

Mr. Emcee - Ken Kushnir.

Mr. Money - John Meislahn Preliminary numbers $104,000 gross so far, with a net of approximately $65,000 more or less. John Meislahn

Mr. Checkout - Louie Capuano

Helium Queen, Susan Nowacki, for decorating up a storm in the room - and not killing anyone with that giant Rotary Wheel balloon. Yes, she has a flair for decorating, but the true test of any good decorator is whether she can use the word 'fabulous' four times in the same sentence. (Yes, Scott, the decorations were fabulously airy, fabulously bright, fabulously clever, and fabulously creative. Helium or air, our Crab Feed Creative Queen did an absolutely fabulous job -Ed)

Dave Wattell The raffle ticket crew: Jim Benoit & Dave Wattell. They were ably assisted by the Inner Wheel Club of Santa Rosa, along with some nice pictures of the bracelet courtesy of Neil Silverman.

With the prize winners for ticket sales as follows: $400 in tickets - Harry Rubins, $250 in tickets- PDG Mike Merrill, and $160 in tickets - President Mike Moore.

Jim Benoit

I want to thank the Boys Scouts and my setup crew, which is ALWAYS there, every year ready to give a hand. Including our President, who gave up his Saturday golf game with Ken Dansie to be there. I think Ken may have played golf anyway….at least he was dressed for it when he showed up.

Bryan Fikes for security and for clean up. Just a note: Please, Bryan, come back. Promise, we won't make you do that again!

That's the short list from President Mike. Super Letterbox DVD version with expanded extra features due out next week.

Oh, and Marigo wanted to be sure to thank the Downtown Club for their strong support by attending the event. They are such a great club - we've taught them everything they know.

And thanks to our Auctioneer Brian Rose, who Chris brought as a guest this morning.

Oh, and Louie Giacometti and Judith Light and her father for loaning the antique vehicles that were on display.

(I know that our latest Roaring Twenties Crab Feed and Live Auction Extravaganza could not have run as smoothly as it did without the experience that she gained working in the trenches last year as the Co-Chair. So let's also recognize our Past Crab Feed Co-Chair Caroline Fox -Ed) Caroline Fox

Gail Johnson Gail Johnson is looking for help in setting up the Youth Exchange Program for next year. She says it is very effortless on the part of host families and a lot of fun. Contact Gail for more information about the program and to get involved.

For anyone on next year's board and any one else who is interested, the District Assembly is going to be on March 15, 2003 in Ukiah. It's a great place to learn about Rotary and how other clubs are organized. All incoming Board members should attend. See the Secretary or Bob Marigo for more information.

DG Terry Clark let President Mike know that our district 5130 is number 22 in the world for contributions to the Rotary Foundation. Pretty good, I'd say.

It's still not too late to get your Rotary License Plates. See President Mike for more information. Paul (the mouth) Schwartz couldn't let this announcement go by with out comment. That comment cost him a quick $30. President Mike

Paul (the mouth) Schwartz & Jim Benoit Paul, seen here with his face in his plate, is still recovering from yesterday's embarrassment, but we won't go there. If it isn't the red and gold in the Super Bowl, who really cares anyway? Looks like the silver and bleeach...choked.

Recognition

USA Today roving reporter, Ken Kushnir, got another quote in the paper last week. I missed it and tried to look at it online to see what he said, but the web site said it would cost $$ to get a copy of it in .PDF form. I think Ken is really profound, but I'm not willing to pay for it. $5 fine from President Mike. Ken Kushnir

Louie Giacometti Louie Giacometti was recognized for bringing the first truck he ever owned to the crab feed for display. Mike tried to talk him into buying a new Dodge pickup but Louie wouldn't bite. Cost him $25 anyway.

Dr. Ralph Lassa is almost quite literally back from the dead, and glad to be here. (I can understand that). President Mike seemed puzzled when Ralph looked down when praising God for his good fortune. It still cost him $25. Dr. Ralph Lassa

Ron Street Ron Street, or Mr. Travel as he is known, is back from a trip. Or several trips. Let's see...Maui...and oh yes, Hong Kong, and oh yes Macao, and oh yes...Las Vegas. All that for only a $50 fine.

Past Secretary (and our steady Mike Hammer fill-in) Bob "Rasputin" Harris should be duly recognized for his outstanding work as today's photographer! Bob "Rasputin" Harris

RAFFLE

John Withers won the chance for the marble and he drew a marble - only it wasn't the marble. Oh well.

I don't know who won the bottle of wine, but it doesn't really matter, as there is no wine anyway. I sure hope the invisible bottle I won a couple months ago and donated to the Crab Feed made it there.

PROGRAM

Susan Nowacki Susan Nowacki, standing in for Paula Wrenn, who (according to Susan) is, as I type this, moving into her fabulous new Northern Alexander Valley Wine Country Estate. Wow, sounds like she really learned something when she wrote that Women and Wealth article a few months back! Anyway, Susan introduced today's speaker, Nona Lucas.

Nona is a member of the Downtown Club and was here to talk a little about the District 5130 Rotaplast Program. She was part of the team of people who went from our District down to Guatemala City last year to do corrective surgery to repair cleft palates. Nona Lucas

The program costs the district $40,000 a year and is looking for support from clubs and members alike. Last year during their visit, they performed corrective surgery on 80 children, giving them the chance to live a normal life. Cleft palates is not a big problem in our world but in other countries it forces children to live lives of shame and embarrassment. Nona showed a short video of her trip and the amazing things Rotaplast does.

For more information on the Rotaplast program contact Nona or go to the Rotaplast website.
