President-Elect Mike Moore President-Elect Mike Moore (subbing for President Brian) called the meeting to order at 12:30 PM.

Greeter Gail Johnson took the podium to welcome visiting Rotarians …8 from Santa Rosa Downtown, 1 from Santa Rosa East, 1 from Guerneville, 1 from Santa Rosa Sunrise, and 1 from Sebastopol.

"Rotoplast" is a program of Rotary International that provides facial reconstruction to children with cleft lips and palates in other countries. District Rotoplast board member Charmaine Stouder will discuss recent work in Bolivia.

"GSE in Siberia". Santa Rosa West member Chris Parr is a District GSE Advisor and public relations rep. She will introduce Louis Bruhmke, who will share his experiences as a member of the 2001 delegation to Siberia.

Sunshine Report:

Susan Nowacki & Her Mom Susan Nowacki's Sunshine Report was thrown to Ginny Pitts who's husband Bob is doing really well following his triple bypass. He will be fine. Thanks to all for their kind thoughts. Susan was accompanied today by her mom.

Announcements

Harry Rubins reminded us that this is our last chance to get Rotary Foundation raffle tickets.

Mike Merrill met with Kate Connelly over the weekend. Thanks to our donations she was able to accelerate her therapy and is now walking.

Mike also reminded us to buy our tickets to next Tuesday's Veteran's Luncheon Celebration. Our club is responsible for 110 tickets and to date only 69 have been sold. Please buy yours now. Mike Merrill

 

PE Mike President Elect Mike also asked us not to forget that we are dark next week, because of the fore mentioned Veterans Luncheon Celebration.

Chris Parr has baseball caps for sale for $10…with all monies benefiting the American Red Cross.

Louie Capuano provided us with our weekly Crab Feed update. The event is still scheduled for 1/26/02. Corporate tables are still for sale…with 31 already sold. Individual tickets will go on sale next week...with plans for 600 to attend our annual event. The next Crab Feed committee meeting is next Thursday 11/8 at 7:30 A.M. at the Hall of Flowers at the Sonoma County Fairgrounds.

Janet Codding's Membership Committee meeting is next Monday night at 5 at her house.

Per President elect Mike…effective 11/1/01…Los Robles is raising our lunch price to $14.

 

Doug Dilley Janet Codding once again (for Bill Fisher) to introduce our new red badge member Doug Dilley, formerly of the Santa Rosa Downtown Club.

Joel Burdick…returning from his drive across America…visiting Utah, the Grand Tetons, Crazy Horse, and lots of other great places, including his youngest son's wedding in St. Louis, visiting his new grand child in Atlanta, then back to St. Louis to his second home. All this for just a $50 donation.

Program

Edwin Anderson

Paula Wrenn introduced our guest speaker, Edwin Anderson, partner in his own firm, author, and fellow Rotarian. Ed gave us a 25-minute video presentation on the 25th Anniversary of Christo's "Running Fence"Christo's 'Running Fence'. This art project took place 25 years ago this past Labor Day. It took almost 3 weeks to build, ran 23 miles over Sonoma and Marin counties, was 18-feet high, made of white nylon fabric, and cost nearly four million dollars in 1976. The project was primarily done by Christo and his wife, Jeanne-Claude. After the exhibit was over, local ranchers got to keep the materials used in making the fence art.
