The
event is sponsored by the five Santa Rosa Rotary and Kiwanis Clubs, and
all clubs will be dark that week. Individual members are encouraged to
invite a veteran and attend. Ginny will be providing us with ticket
information shortly but as an early "heads-up" they are $15 and
will be limited.
The Santa Rosa Fishing in the City event will happen on November
17.
The program is a coordinated effort between the California Department of
Fish & Game, the City of Santa Rosa, Biella Elementary School, and the
Rotary Club of Santa Rosa West. Three volunteers are needed as instructors
prior to the event to teach the rudiments of fishing skills. An additional
two-dozen volunteers are needed the day of the event to supervise and
support the students. Contact Rick Rybicki at home, 576-7771, at work,
575-4923, or by email at rrybicki@littler.com.
Janet Codding reminded members that the Membership Committee meets at

The Program

October is Vocational Service Month, and kicking it off was a fine
program by Vocational Service Director, Jeri Arnold
and company. We are reminded that Vocational Service is one of the
cornerstones of Rotary, being a fundamental part of the "Object of
Rotary".
- Janet Codding, 14 years a Rotarian (perfect attendance, of course) gave
meaning to "The Four-Way Test"
- Ken Dansie was unable to be at the meeting, but Geri described his work
with Ridgeway High School helping to select recipients of vocational
scholarships. Sixty percent of the awardees continue their education at
Santa Rosa Junior College. The unclaimed scholarships are recycled for
future recipients.
Our academic scholarship program at Piner High School was described
by Bob Zeni, former Vice Principal of Piner. Two
students, male and female, are selected each month by Piner counselors to
be honored at and speak to club meetings. Anonymous Rotarians rate these
speeches, and finally two of the set of 16 receive $1000 scholarships,
which are based primarily on academic achievement.
- Each year John Palmer coordinates a career day at Santa Rosa Middle
School where Rotarians talk to the students about their vocation.
Interested Rotarians are encouraged to contact John in order to
participate.
Craft Talk
Past President, Richard Standard won the Jeff Marcus award for the
longest craft talk of the year. (The year isn't up, but he gets it
anyhow!) Richard wears three hats in his life today, and he proved it
by wearing them all.
 |
 |
 |
| His story telling hat, that snap-brim straw
fedora... |
...his "carbs are good for you" hat for when he is representing
Manitec Inc... |
...and his artist hat (not a beret) for when he is in his art
mode. |
Rich also did a "show and tell" with his dulcimers - maybe
sometime he will do a program of story telling and songs so newer members
will have additional understanding as to what an asset he is to our
community. (I think that was a hint, Paula -Ed.)
Adjournment
The meeting was adjourned at 1:31 PM.
