Where have all the bovines gone?

President Brian Herndon President Brian rocking and rolling start at 11:28 a.m. Los Robles time.

Pledge of Allegiance, un-sighted, un-heard, Bulletin writer searching for ear trumpet. Tablemates advise MARY FARHA, but then, what do they know?

(General CAVEAT: It is unseemly, for a fat man to sit next to rail-thin JIM BENOIT, while he fangs into four pounds of mashed potatoes.)

Rotary Moment or Invocation by President Elect MIKE MOORE, Thoughtful but ghastly, JIM BENOIT'S fanging more instructive.

Past President RICH STANDARD, of Chickaluma, introduced the visiting Rotarians. The usual spattering, no surprises. Past President RICH STANDARD

Coming Up

April 15
"Way Cool"

Tracy Kelso of the Sebastopol Rotary Club will bring us up to date on a shared Rotary project, Kool Kids Camp, for at-risk children.
(Reporter: Bob Harris)

April 22
"Vineyard Creek Hotel, Spa & Conference Center"

This long-anticipated
facility is due to open late spring in Santa Rosa. General manager Dan Evans will introduce the amenities and service offerings of this important hospitality option for local business events and lend an attractive dimension to Sonoma County tourism.
(Reporter: Jeri Arnold)

April 29
"The Classic Car Scene"

If you love speed and flashy cars, photojournalist Steve Snyder has recorded the most celebrated motorsports and vintage motorsports events around the world, including Monte Carlo, American LeMans, Pebble Beach and Sears Point. Come learn why our own Sears Point is a terrific place for an introduction to the sport.
(Reporter: Mike Merrill)

* * * * * * *

Guests:

JOE PEREZ, was introduced as a Guest Stranger who confessed not making up, as a good Rotarian should. It appears he was recently married, and traveling about, and spring and all that. There was some muttering about a contribution to Rotary Foundation.

There was also a guest from Modesto, a retired wine maker (or was it Lodi?), name unknown. (Writer dropped ear trumpet while turning page.)

Vladimir Skrypka, yet again. (Why don't you surrender?)

Sunshine report from Susan:

LISA GREENFIELD, is down with a whacked back that will require surgery. Quelle bummer.

Announcements:

District Assembly on April 20th
District Conference May 16th to 19th.

Craft Talk:

Tarina Hall

by TARINA HALL. GAP, Ziff Davis Publishing, NYC "Stewardess" for Western Air lines, GAP, Ziff Davis Publishing, NYC "Stewardess" for Western Air lines, B.S. (we know what that means,) M.S. (more of same) USF, (see John Palmer for PHD, e.g. piled higher and drier.) Moved here one year ago, no family. (But now she has all of us)

In summary; MARKETING (Human Resources?)

Attention all dunderheads: Keep your eyes open, this gal moves out and takes no prisoners. I wonder if Ginny Pitts sold her a steel plate.

Other Junk:

Pres. Brian called up BOB MARIGO and JOHN PALMER to lay $4.000.00, of the Club's dough on SOS Bob Marigo & John Palmer

Janet Codding JANET CODDING, doing a new member thingy at her house, 5: 00 p.m. Pres. Brian notes that, thanks to Janet, we have taken in 9 new members, the yang of which is that we have lost 9 members, and we stand at a net 91 today. (Bulletin writer puts down ear trumpet to observe the continuing massacre of mashed potatoes, and notes that the membership loss is normal 10% attrition that has been with the club forever.)

Let there be no mistake, but for the diligence and energy of Janet, we would be negative.

HARRY RUBIN, (Another 110% producer) On Rotary Foundation: The district target this year, is $125.00 per member. Last year the club averaged $134.00 per member. So it is time to suck it up. Harry Rubin

As an inducement, the club offers to match all contributions made by a member prior to the end of April, that exceed the base expected, demanded, annual contribution of $125.00. I think there must be some limit here, other than the expected general cheapness, and I think it is the next/first level of Paul Harris Fellowshippy.

Rick Rybicki RICK RYBICKI, confessed his makeup sins of omission, and I think is trying to take Harry up on his offer, Let's see, if I put in $125.00, that leaves me $875.00 short of PHF. Divide by two and pony up an additional $437.50, which is matched by the Club, and SCORE. (Is that what you meant Harry?) Rick tried to call his wife regarding his $25.00 limit, but caved with $580.00, which I think is too much.

Rick, it seems, has been in Chile, and the Mariannas, studying OSHA law and learning from the Saipan Islanders how to fish with hand grenades. (Simple, direct, some attendant risk.)

To quote our beloved former member, CHARLES PARTONE, Rick, is just like horse manure in Texas, he's all over the place.

JOE PEREZ, has been punting since February 14th, when he acquired new wife. More sins of ommision, Performing at Carnegie Hall with 22 students from Montgomery High. Sounds flimsy, but see Rick, supra. I think he popped $100.00, but cannot confirm, Jim's eating again.

JOEL BURDICK, St. Louis, Alameda, Florida, St Louis Florida, Seattle, Louisiana, Rome Georgia, St. Louis, Las Vegas, east Cotati, probably few makeup's. Pops $250.00 to Foundation. It appears he has grandchildren all over the place. (Not in Texas, and not in the Partone sense) Joel Burdick

RICH STANDARD, $25.00, for doing the same thing in Petaluma. Son to marry in August.

Dale Sipe DALE SIPE got off horse to mount blue Town and Country, which he concealed for one year. $25.00.

JANET CODDING has a photo in Chamber of Commerce Journal, noting willingness to attend for the Chamber. (This woman has no limits.) $50 Bucks to another Paul Harris.

TERRY GALAZZO jumps in to remind that Xmas In April, will happen April 27th, and she needs 5 volunteers. (Nick040802a)Pres. Brian gives club check for $4,000.00 to Terry and Knick Knickerbocker, in Orange T-Shirt. Terry points out that her bank will match the contribution. Knick Knickerbocker

Raffle:

 NO LUCK. Zin to Paula.

Aha! The Program:

BenStone PAULA WRENN, introduced BEN STONE, from the Sonoma County Economic Development Board.

It appears that Ben went to South America years ago with Group Study Exchange, during which he was subjected to questioning by BILL FISHER as to what his function was. The cast and character of his program is directed to answer this question.

But then, Ben seems to have missed the real questions here. What does BILL FISHER really do? Is there life beyond golf and lunch? Does Bill remind you of the Dome of the Rock with glasses?

So, to the report: Where have all the bovines gone?

Total visitors to Sonoma County last year was 6,000,000. Interesting that one third of inquiries are on the county web site. Movie Biz, Wine, (1978 Movie, "The Grass is Always Greener over the Septic Tank," Chickaluma.)

Bottom Line, Sonoma County is a great place to live and/or work, providing great bang for the buck if you don't have to buy a house. Costs of new homes are skewed out of proportion to other living factors, thus answering the question at the beginning regarding the cows: they have been displaced by environmental polecats, along with the chickens.

Analysis summary: the county economy is still weak, tech is down, retail is down, residential construction is falling, travel and tourism are down. Jim is still eating

Upside potential? Yeah, try 2003.

(From report by Steven G. Chochrane, February, 2002) which was scrutinized by our resident cynic, Mr. Robert S. Harris, HWSEUTS (He Who Scrutinizes Everything Under The Sun -Ed J) Bob Harris
