Thought of the Day: came from Past President Bill
Gittins ('96-'97) who reminded us this was the same
anniversary as Custer's Last Stand, and if Mike did not do a good
job the arrows might come at him. |
Visiting Rotarians and Guests
Terry Galazzo introduced the visiting Rotarians which included a
contingency from the Downtown Club and the infamous PDG John
Strong from the Petaluma Valley Club.
Guests: There were none today.
| Caroline Fox announced there will be a Crab
Feed Meeting for all committee chairs on Thursday June 28
at 7:30AM at the Los Robles Lodge. |
 |
 |
Jeff Ray spoke about our upcoming 5th
annual Golf and BBQ social on September 14 at the Bennett
Valley Golf Course. $40 includes 18 holes of golf (or 9 holes)
and BBQ dinner at 6PM afterwards at Galvin Park
next door. Rotarians can come to either or both. Dinner is only
$15, contact Jeff (skiray007@aol.com)
or Louie Capuano (lcapuano@cds1.net)
to sign up. |
 |
Bill Gittins reminded us about the Debunking
this Saturday night June 30th at the Wikiup Swim Club from 5-8PM.
Casual attire unless you are Chuck and then you need swimwear. |
| Lori Burmeyer is still signing up people for
the Crushers Game on July 8th. The cost is $15 per person
and you need to contact her ASAP if you want to attend. |
 |
 |
Louie Capuano was called to stand and talk
about his recent purchase of a non-working power plant at the
Geysers. Apparently he got a heck of a deal but it will not reduce
our power bills. He donated $100 towards a Paul Harris Fellowship
for his daughter Dawn. |
 |
 |
 |
| Past President Don Ling ('79-'80)
was then acknowledged with his partners in travel Phil Talamantes
and Bryan Jamar. They and 15 other Santa Rosans traveled on a
chartered flight to British Columbia for a little fishing excursion.
Don tried to tell the fledgling President Elect Elect that he had
paid his limit this year. Mike's response: "I don't give a
hoot!". Bryan thought it would be fair if everyone pitched
in $20. |
| Bill Dodson just got back from a 3 week trip
to France where he traveled down a river, drank some wine and ate
a lot of oysters. He had a great trip and decided to pay $1 an
oyster or $40. Now we know why the French are so romantic.... |
 |

|
Ron Allen was called to the stand to retrieve
a long-sought goal: his blue badge. It appears that Ron has had a
red one for over 2 ½ years and has just completed all the
requirements. Some of the blame might go to his sponsor, Paul
Stychno, but regardless of that, Ron paid $10. (Sounds like
we have sort of a new record of longevity here...reminiscent of
the Jeff Marcus "Longest Craft Talk" record --Ed.) |
The Raffle

The Raffle was drawn and the lucky person was Louie Capuano who
was unlucky in his pull of the marble. But Bill Dodson walked away with
the wine.

Janet Codding then presented a check to our speaker Barbara
Barney for $1050. The check will send 3 kids to Cool Kids Camp
sponsored by District 5130.
The Program
Ron Street introduced
Barbara Barney again, who is from the Rotary Club of Sebastopol.
Barbara was here today to tell us more about Cool Kids Camp at Westminster
Woods.
The camp was started last year
by Tom Farrell (also in the Sebastopol club) to give abused and
neglected kids a place to go and just be a kid. The Sebastopol Club
sponsored the event last year with 45 kids from the ages of 8-12 and this
year the District will sponsor the event with 65 kids.
The kids will meet at the Occidental camp from August 20-24 to swim,
hike, be a part of the Sherwood forest experience and just unwind. The
camp raises the youths self esteem and takes their mind off the troubles
that they encounter in the real world. A portion of the kids are returning
from last year and the counselors all see improved attitudes when the 5
days are over.

Now up to this point Mike had run a near flawless meeting. But as our
speaker was setting up a video to watch, Mr. Pres Elect Elect
decided to intervene and mention that it was Marv Hyman's
anniversary this week. Marv told the crowd the date was two weeks ago and
he was already acknowledged for it.
We saw a great video production on Cool Kids Camp and were encouraged
to come and take part in August.
Overall Mr. Moore receives a grade of B+ for an entertaining and
organized meeting. We look forward to having him at the podium in 2002.
