Craft Talk:
Lisa Greenfield,, a red badge, gave her craft talk. "My life in 5 minutes or less". "Lisa Greenfield gave us a personal view of her life as an Air Force child and why she wanted to become a Rotarian. Lisa said she was born in Alaska and then moved on with her Air Force parents to Japan at the age of two years. She learned to speak Japanese and at six years old they returned to Travis Air Force Base at Vacaville. There she became involved with the 4H Club and all throughout high school and college she was interested in children and their education. They then moved to Rohnert Park in 1986. While at a children development center she met Patsy Barnes. She never heard of Rotary and thought it was some secret club. She later received a Paul Harris Fellowship and decided to join Rotary. She was a member of the GSE team that went to the Philippines and graduated from Sonoma State University. Lisa Greenfield has certainly become active in our club and is a great asset is all respects." (-- by Dale Sipe)
There was Talk of Previous Fund raisers: Bartley BBQ
The Program:
Our guest speaker for the day was the Principal Janet Dugin of the Sonoma Academy, an independent High School to open in the Fall of 2001. Janet moved to Sonoma County last summer with her husband and to two sons from Mount Herman, Massachusetts. She had a vision and so did her Board of Trustees, Kitty Angell, former club member Kirt Zeigler and his wife Bev Zeigler, Mike and Carol Draxton, Barbara Banke, Greg and Lisa French, Nancy Lasseter, Dr. Susan Wynne, Ros Manoogan, Max Ulrich, Kit Mann and Bill Hutchinson. Their vision is to run an independent school that will be able to encourage students to be creative, ethical and lifelong learners. The Academy will hold a 501 (c) 3 status and they will be able to define their mission, regulate admission, select staff according to their expertise and teach what the administration, staff, and families deem to be important. They will be in partnership with the parents of the students, which is essential to the success of the students and the school. The families will come from all income levels and backgrounds to create diversity within the Academy. There will also be small class sizes of 15 students each, which will allow for more student-teacher time and attention. Janet, thank you for sharing your vision for the Sonoma Academy with our club. The meeting was adjourned at 1:35pm. Reporter: Lisa Greenfield
