Bulletin May Day in Santa RosaPLEDGE, ROTARY MOMENT, VISITING ROTARIANS Richard Pratt, past president 1985/86, opened the meeting. Richard will be with us for the whole month of May.
Todays pledge was lead by Bill Gittins. Acting President Rich Pratt asked for a moment of silence for President Patsy Barnes who is currently in hospital undergoing surgery. A later report came to your editor that surgery was successful and that she was doing fine. Our thoughts are with you Patsy! Terry Evans announced our visitors: There were none! ??? How Strange!
ANNOUNCEMENTS John Palmer reminded us of the flower delivery program for SOS which is happening on May 12, and 13 and is still looking for some support. Janet Codding encouraged Rotarians to participate in a benefit for the Kids Street Theater to be held at the Kendal Jackson between 2.00 and 4.00 p.m. on Sunday June 4. Special Announcements: Bill Fisher reminded the Club of land based portion of this years District Conference at Santa Rosa Golf and Country Club on May 4, and 5 and urged members to support our own DG, Mike Merrill, by attending Thursday nights Dinner and at least Friday's lunch. RECOGNITION Joe Perez ended up being fined $10 for avoiding and not answering Rich Pratt's questions about his latest trip to Las Vegas, having plumbing problems and ending up in a suite as big as Buckingham Palace. Cheeze! Sorry 'bout that Joe! Bob Harris and Bill Gittins were almost fined for their upcoming trip to Europe but were passed over by Acting Richard until their return. Just remember guys, when you go to Europe you pay PER COUNTRY!!!
Tom Boylan was recognized for his 49th birthday. Mike Moore for his bad spelling. Jim Sullivan was asked about the stock markets and his only response was they "fluctuate", which is Jims sophisticated answer for what goes up must come down. What was amazing was that Acting President Rich then dragged out a bulletin that dated from during his '86-'87 tenure. In that Bulletin it was reported that when asked that very same question Sullivan had also given the same answer back then! Some things never changeJ Tom Tessier was recognized for $20 because he expanded his CPA practice. Maybe the club will refund the money when you start cutting back Tom!
PROGRAM Our friend Louie Capuano presented a detailed paper on how he is helping the federal government understand how and when a major earthquake may strike and hopefully avoid the State of California from slipping into the Pacific ocean. The idea is to drill a well in Parkfield through the San Andreas fault and to monitor tremors as they occur. Total cost is currently projected at around $8 million without inflation! Thank you Louie for an excellent presentation and putting up with our inane questions
