Bulletin OPENING NOTES
President Patsy opened the meeting promptly at 12.25 p.m. A rather confused group of Rotarians and guests (the meeting being held in the Los Robles restaurant instead of the usual locale) had difficulty in finding President Patsy and the flag! However, despite the obvious disorientation Dale Sipe led us in the pledge and Julie Scherer provided us with the Rotary moment.
ANNOUNCEMENTS Jim Valinoti continued to lead the announcing chorus despite an obvious attempt by the announcers to sabotage his carefully prepared agenda.
Ray Mattison informed us of the Holiday cocktail party to be held at Janet Codding's house on December 20th, commencing at 6.00 p.m.
Joe Perez reminded Rotarians that host families are still needed for our Chilean exchange student, Guiomar Medeiro, for winter and spring periods.
RECOGNITIONS
Phil Talamantes reported that there had been very few "squealers" during the week, so he promptly decided to fine every Rotarian who sold his/her OCLI stock too early $1each.
Phil also mentioned that there was a marriage rumor circulating the club, but no Rotarian fessed up. Susan Nowacki was recognized $10 for a new Jeep; Ginny Pitts, $5 for a cabin in the woods that she didnt know she owned; and, Neil Silverman, $25 for the "Grand Tour" of approximately 30 states over a 3-month period. Chuck Baker was recognized $40 because A&A Transmissions had its 40th anniversary.
Tom Boylan was fined $10 for being a Pete Magrini look-a-like and for some reason Ron Street's high school picture fetched only $2. John Palmer contributed $10 due to a second grandson, Gavin Robert, who weighed in at 10 lbs. 4ozs. RAFFLE
The raffle is still alive and well as Susan Nowacki failed to find THE marble and claim $840 and Paula Wrenn donated her $20 to SOS. PROGRAM Arnie Carston introduced our speaker, Taube Weiss, a Holocaust survivor.
Taube gave a very detailed account of her experiences in the concentration camps of Belsen, Auschswitz, and the Ghettos; how children, mothers, and fathers were separated; and, the atrocities they and the Jewish nation suffered during the second world war. Taube returned to Poland at the end of the war but soon decided that the USA was the place for her. She landed in Los Angeles and made her way to Northern California where she resides today. Thank you Taube for sharing those experiences with us.
