We were dark on Sept. 7, 1998.
THE BARTLEY BASH: FUN ACTIVITIES, FELLOWSHIP, FRIVOLITY!
RAFFLE TICKETS: SELL, SELL, SELL!
Why, Why, Why?
The Bartley Bash is fast approaching (Oct. 2, 1998, at the Santa Rosa Country Club) and
we are not even close to our Dream Vacation Raffle goal of raising $30,000. Currently,
approximately $7,800 in sales has been reported. Besides the Bartley Bash being one heck
of a good time both for members and their guests, the funds raised through the sale of
raffle tickets are used for several of our most important community projects. These
projects include:
The Southwest Children's Health Center: this center provides health services
more than 3000 low-income children up to 12 years old in and around Southwest Santa Rosa.
Funds collected through the raffle will be used to construct a third examination room for
the clinic.
The Santa Rosa Corps of the Salvation Army: the raffle funds will help support
summer and day camps for needy children.
The Northwest Santa Rosa Regional Branch Library: the funds we collect will be
used to build a computer workstation for children's education.
The Earl Baum Center of the Blind, Inc.: our donation will help to run this
Community and Training Center run by and for the blind to help them lead ordinary lives.
California Handicapables: our support will help them to continue to provide
spiritual and social enrichment as well as emotional support and informal counseling to
physically handicapped men and women.
The Friends Program of the City of Santa Rosa Recreation and Parks Department:
our assistance will help them continue to provide after school programs in low income
areas.
Ridgeway High School: we will be funding a library project as well as continuing
support through scholarships.
H. H. H. Grant: are donations to this program will help to feed the world.
It is important that we each understand and carry in our hearts the solemn importance
of our efforts. Most of the time in Rotary we are not keenly aware that the fund-raising
efforts we make can dramatically change the lives of those people touched by the programs
listed above. But these programs and the assistance we give to them are the true heart and
spirit of Rotary.
SO SELL YOUR RAFFLE TICKETS!!!
OFF THE WALL:
Notes from September's Board Meeting
The Shoe Program may well have found new life through the efforts of Bob
Marigo and Mark Decker. Sport Mart is apparently a willing participant. There
are murmurings of the possibility that a food program may be assembled with the
information garnered through the shoe program. Membership attendance is at 93% with
three honorary members. Rumor has it that one or more surprise awards might surface
at the Bartley Bash. Be there and find out. The Southwest Children's Health Center
is in need of a patio trellis cover. We're looking into it. Ken Dansie will soon be
circulating sign up sheets for volunteers to go into local high schools an interview
students for scholarships as well as make vocational presentations. A reminder, the
vocation you represent need not be your own (apparently, several members have already
volunteered to represent the lawyers). On the international service front, additional
funds have been used to ship books to Africa. The International Service Committee
is really humming. Lots of projects and potential projects are being looked into see Paul
Schwartz for details. The big raffle ticket sales leaders are: Ginny Pitts
(23), Robin Marrs (15), Dale Sipe (12), Anne Abrams (11) and Louis
Capuano (11). Rumors have been heard that Ginny Pitts is issuing challenges
right and left, boasting her clear dominance of the field. |
