Moment. Tom (who?) Skinner introduced 19 Visiting Rotarians, who were looking

ANNOUNCEMENTS
Volunteer Speakers High Schools
Ken Danzie, with translation by Ron Street, asked for volunteers to sign up
for 15-20 minutes on any vocational topic in keeping with the Youth theme topic.
King Richard the Story Teller
This week's selection was the story of a little boy who goes to one school which is
easily accessible and is taught to conform and abandon his own creativity. He moves
and goes to a much larger school where his classroom is much less accessible and he is
taught that his own creativity is essential to his learning process.
Dream Vacation
Laurie Burmeyer reminded everyone to get those last minute tickets to her or Mark
Decker. The drawing will have been held at SR Golf and Country Club by the time this
bulletin is issued. Hats off to Ginny Pitts (left) who sold 25 so far, and all the
others who hit 10+.

Sebastopol Club Pitches in to Help Hurricane Victims

RECOGNITION
Past President Jim Valinoti and past DG John Withers had a bet
that the attendance records for our group had never been as high as they are presently.
Jim admitted that he had been proven wrong and both were nailed
for $25 based on an article in an Oct. 1983 bulletin about high attendance records.
Elusive Tom Skinner tried to redeem himself by paying a $40 fine for
participating in a Ukiah club sponsored triathlon event. He dragged in "witness"
Mike Merrill (right) who also paid $25 for his participation in the same event.
MARK YOUR CALENDARS
October 16 Golf tournament, contact Jeff Ray;
OK to attend dinner only need 7 more to break even.
RAFFLE $1,240 with 14 Marbles Left
A visitor barely missed striking it rich. Laurie Burmeyer won $40 - $30 got her
a raffle ticket, and $10 went back to the "fund".
MEMBERSHIP DRIVE by
Teri Evans
Our goal is to bring in 2 new members per month. There are 5 teams formed with the team
leaders being Bill Fisher, Ginny Pitts, Phil
Talamantes, Steve Kay and myself. Each team consists of about 20
members which include all club members.
An ongoing report will be given on which teams have brought in new members.
We will be looking for new members who will bring a range of personal and professional
resources and knowledge that will strengthen our clubs ability to serve throughout
the community.
West Santa Rosa Rotary has a long, very distinguished history of community service. An
ongoing membership base is key to continuing this legacy.
PROGRAM
Dr. Harry Johnson of the Arcata club, past DG and current Youth Exchange Chairman,
gave on overview of the international scholarship and exchange program involving high
school students. About 21 out of 41 clubs are active in 15 countries. Each club needs to
budget about $2,000 to get this started. The program involves recruiting outbound students
and host families for inbound students, assigning counselors and making detailed
arrangements. He described examples of team building, teaching of Rotary principles, and
strict rules that must be followed. He introduced two visiting students who gave
presentations about their impressions of the program and some insights into their home
countries. Fausto Russi from Ciudad de Carmen in SE Mexico is attending school in
Fortuna where he is playing soccer. He did his homework before the trip by researching his
host "city" on the Internet. Amalia Martinez from Cochabamba in Bolivia
traveled all the way to Trinidad (Calif., not the island nation). She described the
cultural differences and other observations. Overall, this was a very inspiring program.
