January 19
Captain Al Haynes speaks to Windsor Rotary (See Announcements)

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

December 14, 1998

Order! Order!

King Richard called the meeting to order at 12:35pm and Duncan Holt led us in the Pledge of Allegiance. Marc Matson gave a long wonderful speech on the meaning of happiness and the spirit of giving, much to the chagrin of Bob Marigo. Someone at the back table had to give Bob the LOOK. Mark Decker did an admirable job of introducing visiting Rotarians.

Announcements

Crab Feed – turn in $$ and ticket stubs to Mark Decker; donations of prizes and cash donations go to Bob Marigo. John Withers donated $1,500 worth of Mead Clark Lumber. There is a waiting list for tickets; anyone who cannot attend should contact Tom Tessier.

Contacts for Crab Feed Needed: We need to arrange for transportation, lodging and rental car for one week trips to Mexico and Hawaii. We need contacts, names and phone numbers of people who can help us put this together. Contact Ron Street with names or numbers of people who are in the know.

Windsor Rotary Club is having a special speaker, Captain Al Haynes of Unitied Airlines, who will be sharing with them the inspiring and life changing story of United 232.  January 19, 1998, 7:00 a.m., probably at Luther Burbank, $10.00, continental breakfast, call Beverly Graham at (707) 838-3737 for reservations and info.

Bob Harris is in the process of updating the Membership Roster.   If you have any changes or updates to your info, contact Bob ASAP.  Also, if you have updates to your e-mail address or fax number, contact David Bjorklund.

The cost of lunch will increase from $11.00 to $12.00, starting January 4, 1998. The additional dollar will be used to cover the costs for guests who attend our meetings.  Previously, we had a rebate system arranged with Los Robles Lodge wherein a portion of each lunch that was collected went to the club for this purpose.  However, when they increased the price of lunch they did not add the rebate into the new cost.  Please direct any questions or concerns regarding this matter to Richard Standard or Bob Harris.

District Conference 2000

Mike Merrill and Bill Fisher announced that the Sun Princess cruise ship has selected for the millenium conference "in transit" between SF and Vancouver. One-way fares are quoted in the range of $250 to $400 per person; attendees will have the option of paying more to continue the cruise through the Inland Passage or fly back to SFO.

Avoid the Rush

By filling out the ticket stubs on your crab feed tickets and getting them to Chris Rosell ASAP, you can avoid having to stand in line to register and get your bidding books at the Crab Feed.

SRWR Welcomes Noel Buhler and Tom Boylan

Past Prez Bill Gittins introduced 2 new members joining our club but before he did this he gave a heartfelt message on the meaning of Rotary. He joined 12 years ago and instructed us on the object of Rotary. Rotary encourages and fosters acquaintanceships for service. Rotary has high ethical standards that are applied toward an ideal of service. Rotary advances world understanding and develops good will. Thanks Bill for reminding us of the four way test. And now on to our newest members! Noel Buhler is the super-intendent of the Oak Grove School District and sponsored by John Withers and Tom Boylan of Boylan Point Advertising is sponsored by Lori Burmeyer. Congratulations and welcome to our club.

Rotary Scholarships Awarded to Piner's Finest

Bob Zeni introduced Piner High School’s finest graduating seniors that have earned a Rotarian Scholarship.

Melissa Crook has a grade point of 4.06. She enjoys girl’s softball and is a member of the concert choir and show choir. She is also very active in her church. She hopes to attend Brigham Young University majoring in Physical Therapy and later transferring to Utah State.

Issac Mayhew is planning on going to Santa Rosa Junior College and then on to UC Berkeley. A very financially wise decision. Music and Math are Issac’s passion in life. He will soon receive his black belt in martial arts. He would like to major in Physics or math.

Matt Test has a G.P.A. of 4.05. He is a good standing member of the Justice Club and the Golf Club. He founded the Piner Swing Club. Matt plays the harmonica and guitar. His passion leads him to the theatre and Communications. He hopes to attend UC Berkeley or U.C.L.A.

Last but not least is Elizabeth Wood who has a grade point of 4.08. She is very active in her LDS church and hopes to attend Brigham Young University.

Another round of astounding students with over the top grades one can only imagine.

General Recognition (Fines)

The following fines were forwarded to the following fellows for frolicking freely on their free time:

Who went to Hawaii to play golf you ask? The following felons were fined: Duncan Holt, Phil Talamantes, Chuck Olson and Jim Sullivan.

Scott Bartley and Ken Kushnir are at it again. Traveling all over the country and then some. They spent some time in New York City and Puerto Rico. Let us know the next time you guys go and we will have you do a slide show upon your return!

PROGRAM: Piner's Gold Rush Show Choir

The Gold Rush Show Choir from Piner High School gave all of us a burst of holiday spirit with their medley of wonderful Christmas songs. As I gazed over the crowd I noticed not one Rotarian snoozing! That’s a tribute to this smiling energetic group of young people.
