ASAP. Also, if you have updates to your e-mail address or fax number, contact David Bjorklund.
The XMAS FAIRE which benefits the SOS Program will be held Dec. 4-6 and
Dec. 11-12. They are seeking raffle gift donations as well as volunteers to sell raffle
tickets and provide other assistance as well.
The cost of lunch will increase from $11.00 to $12.00, starting
January 4, 1998. The additional dollar will be used to cover the costs for guests who
attend our meetings. Previously, we had a rebate system arranged with Los Robles
Lodge wherein a portion of each lunch that was collected went to the club for this
purpose. However, when they increased the price of lunch they did not add the rebate
into the new cost. Please direct any questions or concerns regarding this matter to Richard Standard or Bob
Harris.
Birthday boys were Bill Fisher, Joseph Keller, Ray Schofield,
and Roger Olson. All were recognized with a $5.00 fine.

More Local Programs Benefit from Your Rotary Donations and Good
Deeds
| Jim Valinoti presented three local groups with grants for their
projects. The projects funded were a play area at the
local jail for children with incarcerated parents , Handy Capables and the Salvation Army Children's Summer Camp Program. Stephanie
Beer accepted a check for $1,000.00 made payable to the Pastor's Prayer Fellowship for
a childrens play area at the county jail. The play area will accommodate the over 250
children that visit the county jail per month and are left without much to do while moms
visit dads in jail. |
 |
 |
A check for $1,500.00 was presented to Dave Del Costillo, of Handy
Capables to assist with their effort to give shut-ins some time out of the house for a
meal and entertainment. They provide transportation to local events and eating locations. The
third check in the amount of $1,000.00 was given to Capt. Phillip Love of the
Salvation Army for their childrens summer camp program. The gift will sponsor eight
children to camp helping them to experience working together and learning camping first
hand. |
General Recognition (aka Fines)
Dale Sipe was back in town from a cross-country venture that took him through 18
states. Says it was a Navy convention. (maybe Tailhook!) President Richard
collected $20.00 for the 6 week trip.
Ron Street didnt fair as well with his visit to Mexico. Ron
insisted it was his Navy reunion like Dale. Several suggested it was the Mexican
Navy. Pres. Richard firmly separated $25.00 from Rons wallet much to
his dismay.
Arnie Carsten was next with destinations to Hawaii and Vienna. President
Richard extracted only $20.00 for the trip. Such a good buy. |
 |
Jim Valinoti traveled to Fort Lauderdale for an immersion into "the
corporate worlds management indoctrination". He said it was all work and no
play. But he did have time for just one prank (a requirement for graduation). Over 4000
Dixie cups full of water ended up on the CEOs floor. He had to drink his way into
his office. The fine levied by Pres. Richard was $35.00.
Raffle
Linda Tessier (Toms new wife) was the latest person miss the big money
pot. The marbles tally goes to 6. Go luck to all next week. Bob Lucas won the
$20.00 next ticket award and promptly donated it the Community Fund.
Program - "Who's on First?"
Fellow Rotarian Joe Perez was gracious to step in when our speaker was a no
show. Joe gave a great program on his full-time job as Asst. Communications Manager at the
County where he manages the communications network and the thousands of communication
devices needed to link law enforcement agency's, the DA office, the Court house and public
safety officers together. |
 |
Sonoma Countys mountainous terrain makes communications with officers in the
field a challenge and expensive to maintain. A new micro wave system was installed to make
communications with remote sections of the county more reliable. The county has over 4,000
communications devices in the field and over 2000 PC in its inventory. Joe
and his staff are kept real busy just keeping track of the equipment let alone maintaining
it.
Good job Joe.
