Buenos Dias Amigo

OH PIN EEN SALVO

The lessor known, seldom understood playwright Ruckhouse Bledsoe (1793-1954), utilizing the Faulkner style of stream of conscientious prose, once put to pen the little known and oft hushed fiasco that history has dubbed the day the Rioting Rotarians Ransacked Roanoke. Of course, this has nothing to do with the immediate task at hand which is to advise the interested masses as to what transpired jedertag and what is likely to happen in the future.

The April 26, 1999 session of Santa Rosa West commenced at 12:27 when President Richard, with practiced precision, whompted the brass, thereby garnishing the momentary attention of those present. As the masses rose to address the flag, belts were hiked, pants were pulled and skirts and dresses smoothed. Lori Burmeyer led the pledge to Old Glory. Then John Withers was called upon to give philosophical pause. John recited the oft memorized but apparently quickly forgotten Cadet's Prayer. President Rich followed with a moment of silence for the families in Littleton and for those of former member Perry Johnston.

Paula Wren introduced visiting Rotarians, eight of which were members of the Jurassic Downtown Club. Sebastopol, Petaluma and Healdsburg were also represented as was Sausalito and from the land of Kanak, Bombay, India.

NOWNZMINTS

Let's see!! Last week Jim Hinton left scores of forms on the tables to be filled out by the anxious multitudes desirous of housing exchange students. Jim had to haul most of the blank forms back to his quarters. However, Janet Codding and Terry Price volunteered. See Jim for more confusion.

Chris Parr discussed the forthcoming third sequel of the Return of Neil Siverman, whereby Neil will give us a slide show of his Philippine venture.

Janet Codding reminded us of an annual Kids’ Street Theater Mother’s Day gala this Saturday. See Janet for the count and the amount!

The Club has initiated a new library at Ridgeway High School designated The John Bugbee Santa Rosa West Memorial Library.

RIDGEWAY SCHOLARS RECOGNIZED

Ken Dansie, utilizing the Queen’s finest, introduced Jim Hiss, who in turn introduced seven Ridgeway High School students who each received a scholarship of $350.00. Ken has virtually taken this project from conception to fruition by his own lonesome and deserves the credit and our praise. 042699_3.jpg (41226 bytes)

CAMP RYLA LA LA

042699_1.jpg (51852 bytes)Jim Underhill gave us a brief history of RYLA from its roots in Australia to its present day form as practiced in our District. Jim has been the spearhead of this program, although he heaped rightful praise upon former District Governor Duane Blackwill and others in our club who have volunteered their time and energy. Great Job Jim, you have brought this organization through ten successful years. Three RYLA student participants spoke briefly about their RYLA experiences.

WRAPHUL LEX DEFEATUS
(RIGUS GAMUS)

Although the coffers contained a healthy $1100.00, and there were sufficient "furinurs" to bolster the amount even higher, not even two (count ‘em folks, two) seasoned lawyers like Messrs. Hinton and Benoit could shake any meaningful money from the Bag of Greed and Gratification, which was purported to contain only a few marbles. It always gives me pause!

PRO GRAHM.

Will Haymaker introduced Anna Louisa Mendosa. Anna gave us a report on "Project Amigo" developed by Rotary Clubs in the U.S. and in Colima, State of Colima, Mexico. This joint effort has resulted in improved housing, medical assistance, educational backing and even an occasional fire engine. All of which will be needed if the active, nearby volcano decides to pull a Mt. St. Helens on the local populace. In any event, it was a joy to observe a fine slide presentation that puts the many efforts and successes of Rotary in a visual perspective that we can all witness and appreciate.

Submitted with absolutely no sense of reverence by an occasional scribe, Pat Sizemore.
