Neil and Mark are Mesmerized
Tom Boylan took a step closer to getting his blue badge with an entertaining presentation. He started and finished with good Irish jokes. Tom is an advertising / marketing consultant with an impressive list of clients. Much of his work is focused on writing. He writes an automotive column for the PD, has worked with King Richard at the Gazette.  His job stints included Fox and Froggy. He does a lot of volunteer work in his home community of Sebastopol, and joined Rotary to "find a balance" in his life, business and volunteer work. Tom’s wife is Melody Monteras, an agent with Frank Howard Allen.

Program

030199-3.jpg (35300 bytes) John Palmer (left) introduced Santa Rosa City Manager Ken Blackman (below) who discussed Y2K compliance efforts by the city. Mr. Blackman   started and finished with Irish humor. He was generally upbeat. The basic message is – we are doing just fine and the city will not come to a grinding halt on January 1st. Even your utility bills will be sent on time. Most of the imbedded chips used in vehicles and equipment have been identified. The priority is to upgrade computers and equipment used for services. Traffic signals, pump stations, vehicles and basic computer equipment are O.K. Telecommunications services should be upgraded by July 1999.
The problem most citizens have is "lack of trust" in local government. Town meetings are being held to share ideas and information. The Q&A session dealt with the Hwy 12 golf driving range (Mike Moore wants to buy the club that hit all those balls out onto the highway), RUDAT study, $500K link between downtown and RR Square, emergency services, and photo surveillance at key intersections.
