Raffle Mania

King Richard, after loosing his marbles, presented the bag-o-fortune to Arnie Carston got a clear blue indication that he had not hit the gold.

Ron Allen (again) was the winner of the second prize. There were murmurings that he had achieved some kind of record for consecutive raffle wins. You gotta love this guy.

CLUB ASSEMBLY

PRESIDENT'S REPORT, Richard Standard:

In referring back to the video he showed on the first day of his presidency, we have planted a lot of seeds. Whatever idea someone can bring for a worthy project, Rotary can help and get it done. The recent ambulatory devices project which was initiated by Paul Stychno with our sister club in San Jose, Costa Rica is a great example. At the beginning of this term, we didn't have an International Committee. With just a few people getting some ideas and taking some action, the results have been tremendous.

Also, as a result of the Crab Feed we have $40,000 in the war chest. We have been streamlining membership procedures to gain new members. The projects funding committee has been re-established. Along with Mike Merrill's district governership, we will be the lead group in the district. We all need to rise to the occasion and be the best possible conduit for the good which can be accomplished in the world through Rotary.

MEMBERSHIP, Teri Evans:

We should be focusing on bringing guests to our club. Everyone needs to be involved in the membership process, not just the board and membership committee but all of us should be doing something about it. In President Richard's term, we have brought in 5 new members. We need more. Patsy Barnes suggested updating status of eligible members to senior active so as to open up more classifications. It was suggested that we should put the Blue Badge requirements up on the World Wide Web or in the Bulletin.

It was also suggested that we have a reunion for past members of our club who might wish to return. Finally, Paul Schwartz suggested that we have a Guest Day on a day we have one of our more exciting speakers. Have any more ideas? Contact Terry Evans, quick.

CLUB SERVICE, INTERNAL, Janet Codding:

She needs volunteers to help with the sound system. Also, many of the jobs that she and Lori Burmeyer are seeking people to do, (greet visitors, sell raffle tickets, lead the pledge and give the invocation) are not big jobs but they need to be done every week. She asked that if we are called for this type of service, please do it. She gave a special thanks to Dale Sipe and Lori Burmeyer for the assistance they have given in this arena.

CLUB SERVICE, EXTERNAL, Mark Decker:

The Shoe Giveaway Program will be coming together probably before the end of the month. Mark is trying to arrange a Sweetheart Event before the end of February. For St. Patrick's Day we will be having our evening meeting at a local pub same as last year.

We will be setting up Fireside Socials in April and May. If you are interested in hosting one of these, contact Mark Decker. Finally, in June we will have our Presidential Recognition party.

VOCATIONAL SERVICE, Ken Dansie:

Academic Scholarship program at Piner will continue to be run by Bob Zeni. Vocational Scholarship Program at Ridgeway and Santa Rosa High will be put together by Ken.

As far as the vocational presentations at the schools are concerned, Ken is awaiting word from the teachers as to what they want. In regards to the Ridgeway Library Program: the John Bugbee Memorial Fund has agreed to fund the library which will be named the John Bugbee Santa Rosa West Rotary Memorial Library. Funding has been allotted for books, computers and infrastructure.

INTERNATIONAL, Paul Schwartz:

Crutches and ambulatory devices program will become an on going project. We are process of establishing relationship with Salvation Army. We have shipped two shipments of books (at a ton a piece) to villages in Tanzania. The Health Hunger and Humanity program which is for the purpose of improving water and sanitation systems in towns and villages in Central America (Honduras, Equador, etc.) has gained the support of Rotary International to the tune of up to $500,000. Our District has been asked to come up with a minimal amount of matching funds.

We are reviewing proposals regarding other projects around the world, including one submitted by Mike Merrill to establish daycare centers in other parts of the world and a support relationship with a Ukrainian, Rotary Club submitted by Robin Marrs. Neil Silverman has been selected as team leader on group study program to the Philippines. Two of our club recommendations for trip participants have been selected. Special thanks to Paul Stychno for his active role in international service.

PUBLIC RELATIONS, Terry Price:

Terry springs into action on an as needed basis to promote our club. Instead of trying to get stories which are "business as usual", he suggested we focus on our more interesting activities and accomplishments. He stated that to get the interest of the media we need a strong "hook" to get attention. He sited the recent TV 50 news piece on our clubs collection and distribution of crutches, canes, etc. to third world countries as an example. He asked that any ideas you have be forwarded to him. Terry also asked members to contact him if they have media contacts could be helpful to getting our stories published.

BULLETIN, David Björklund:

Pat Sizemore and Ron Allen graciously agreed to be the final additions to the writer roster. The Bulletin is looking for feature articles by group members as to what Rotary means to them, why they got involved, stayed involved, think others should get involved, etc.

Absent Board Members

Ron Street home with the flu; Bob Harris is overseas in Thailand. Bob Zeni is doing yeoman service filling in with the Secretaries Duties.
