I Have Dream, A Rotary Dream

King Richard of the West opened the holiday of Martin Luther King’s birthday at 12:35pm. Teri Evans led us in the Pledge and introduced visiting Rotarians. Because of the holiday all bankers, investment counselors, city, government and county employees will be assessed $25.00 next week due to the day off. Ron Street was to give the Rotary moment but he was not present till later. Janet Codding jumped up enthusiastically and confidently spoke up. She did a great job thanking "formidable" Bob Marigo for his role in the crab feed.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Crab Feed

011899_1.jpg (7437 bytes)Bob Marigo walked up to the podium amid much applause to thank his co-workers and volunteers for helping to make the crab feed a resounding success.

Bob thanked Chris Rosell, for all his hard work, Ed & Suzanne Burr who did all the inputting that night, Gary Dugger who graciously donated the computers, Bob Harris who developed the software, Ken Kushnir who did the live auction, Scott Bartley and Duncan Holt for set-up, Dennis Wilkinson and Gil Lucas for the great drinks, Mark Decker, the keeper of the money, Mike Arendt for clean-up and all the red badgers. If he missed thanking you please forgive the oversight.

Ginny also thanked many volunteers who helped set up the silent auction. They were as follows, Janet Codding, Neil and Susan Silverman, Lori Burmeyer, Anne Abrams, Ken Dansie and Rene Silvestre. Thanks again!

President Elect-Elect Nominated

011899_4.jpg (7099 bytes)Due to an editorial oversight, it was not reported that the nominating committee has selected its nominee for club president in 2000-2001: Chuck Stark.  Chuck has graciously agreed to accept the nomination and serve as president if elected by the club.  A happy coincidence would also have it that Chuck was the winner of the big raffle at the Crab feed. Congratulations Chuck and Thanks!

Challenged Skiers

Remember, this year's Ski Challenge will be on the weekend of March 5, 1999. The particulars will be announced as soon as they are known. But, as this trip generally fills up very quickly, advanced registration is advisable.

January Is Rotary Awareness Month

Check out the Rotary International WebSite and remember, videos and literature are available for us in our continuing effort to share the gift of Rotary in our community. In celebration of Rotary Awareness Month, it might be a good idea for us to bring a friend to lunch at our group to share with people what Rotary is all about.

Dear John

John Withers because of illness has not undergone surgery yet.  He is, by all reports still staying at the Raddison Hotel, 150 S. Broadway, Rochester, MN 55904; (507) 281-8000, fax (507) 281-4280. Cards, calls, visits and other forms of good humored harassment would be appreciated (though don't expect John to admit it).

Janet Needs a Sound Man

At present, Joe Perez and Gil Lucas are doing yeoman service switching off on the sound duty from week to week.  However, this is more than a two person job.  An additional person or two would make this service easier and more fun.  Talk to Janet, Joe or Gil.

Raffle

Bob Miller got the call and rose to greet his fate.  Alas no magic marble for Bob this week.  Who but Ron Allen would receive the second place prize.

PROGRAM

011899_2.jpg (10083 bytes)Tom Boylan introduced our guest speakers who spoke very timely on the weather. First to speak was Cathy Trafton, resident meteorologist for TV station KFTY who also teaches Meteorology at the Santa Rosa Junior College. She talked about the different inland and water buoy computers available to help her let us know what tomorrow will be like. Our second speaker was Ron Smith who is a Professor of Meteorology at the J.C. Ron holds 5 degrees and knows something about planetariums to dinosaurs.

The following observations regarding weather have been made by both Cathy and Ron:

1. Yes, it will be nice today.

2. It may rain.

3. Rain or shine, 50%

4. Based on satellite and National Weather Service photos the precipitation factor and temperature and pressure variances indicate a probable weather condition.

King Richard thanked our guests and gonged the bell at 1:18pm
