For StartersPresident Jim Valinoti brought the meeting to order. Gil Lucas led us in the Pledge. Our invocation and Rotary "Moment" came from Chris Rosell. Jim Valinoti also introduced the Visiting Rotarians, and the distance winner came all the way from Belize City, Belize. Guests were introduced along with four of our incoming six "Red Badger" in attendance. Miscellaneous fines, info and announcements:Today's meeting hearkened back to the dark ages due to our lack of wandering room microphones. (Who has seen the mike connector?) Marc Matson suggested a club FUND NIGHT for November 29 at the Los Robles. Bob Lucas and his group (with hot shot horns from SF!) are available to play for the dance and dance lessons. Member input is desired on this possibility. |

Chris also told members that the Fireside scheduled for
October 2 has been moved back to November 13. A verbal crossfire then erupted concerning
that night's raffle and Judge Antolini silenced the masses with his legal
opinion on raffles and charitable contributions. John Ramsey (left) was recognized for receiving the Blue Chip Council award from his employer Smith Barney. Roger Olson collected some photos from Jim without a fine. |
| Dennis Wilkinson (below) was fined $25 for winning four
medals at the harvest fair in the gift packets division. He used his new laser engraver to
produce the items.

| Dennis Crandall reported on the progress of the Club's big fundraising raffle for theWindstar Cruise. Roughly 520 tickets have been sold so far. The goal is to at least surpass the 772 sold last year and hopefully reach 1,000. All you need to do to sell a ticket is ask people if they want a $12,000 cruise or $10,000 cash. All tickets sold from here on out are pure (non) profit! The final day to turn in tickets is next Monday, October 6th. | ![]() |
The party featuring the drawing is on Monday, October 13, at the Cantina downtown. The no host bar starts at 5:30 and the drawing will be at 7:00pm. Unlimited snacks will be $10. Limited snacks will be $10. For Santa Rosa West Rotarians, whether you show up or not it will be $10, because this event takes the place of our meeting that day.
Of the 22 marbles that Rich Pratt had to chose from for a $700 prize, his color blind fingers chose one of the 21 wrong spheres! Janet Codding grabbed the consolation cash and proceeded to buy another raffle ticket with the funds.
| Linda Johnson, the Executive Director of the Sonoma County Wineries Association , gave us an update on the wine business. Despite untimely rains, a record crop is being picked. Zinfandel grapes experienced a few problems, but other than that, the only industry problem seems to be finding enough tanks and barrels to hold this bumper crop. The vintners and wine makers are excited about the fruit that is coming in and expect it to produce great wine. Time will tell............... | ![]() |
| She commented on the upcoming Harvest Fair, its winners and this year's crop of wine judges. Other topics breached included shipping, taxation, increasing "mainstream" journalistic acceptance of the Wine Industry, important SCWA partnerships with firms such as AMEX and United Airlines, and retail wine costs. She was positive about the industry as a whole and predicted that continued growth would expand tourism and overall income for Sonoma County. | |
