Preliminary Matters

President Jim Valinoti called the meeting to order at 12:30. He then introduced Ken Kushnir who led us in the Pledge of Alligence. The spare and graceful invocation came from Mark Decker.

Visiting Rotarians, Guests and Goof-Offs

Janet Codding, radiant as always, introduced visiting Rotarians. President Jim, eager to get on with the agenda, started on the announcements, but was interupted by Michael Moore.

"I was just wondering, maybe I missed the announcement of Guests of Rotarians?" he inquired.

"I was just getting to that," responded Jim in flustered but presidential tones. Guests included Mike Merrill's invitee, Gail Johnson, realtor, with Polley, Polley and Madsen.

President Jim acknowledged the tribute paid to him by the empty table directly in front of the podium, the table where he sat before assuming his office. "It's like retiring your number. I guess when someone charismatic leaves..." Jim intoned. Phil Talamantes, obviously moved, got up to say something, but just then the whole back table with Michael Moore, Bob Marigo and Ken Dansie, among others, got up and paraded to the the Jim Valinoti Memorial Table and occupied it. Now they could see Jim clearly. "He sure is ugly up close," was one comment.

Announcements

Valerie Mazzoni

Santa Rosa Area Presidents and Secretaries Meeting will feature a presentation of our website and bulletin on July 31.

Bob Harris praised Valerie Mazzoni (left) for her strong work as club secretary, and told us that now that he is Secretary, we will appreciate Valerie all the more.

Immediate Past President Bill Gittins was awarded his Past President's pin by Jim Valinoti. Bill thanked Jim and let it loose that he is "knitting more booties." As was reported last week, he is expecting a grandchild in February. Well, now he's expecting yet another one, this bundle of joy to arrive in March. Bill offered another $100 towards a Paul Harris.

The Dutch Kids Barbeque is set for this coming Saturday, August 2, from noon to six, at the Wikiup Swim and Tennis Club. President Valinoti promises special fare, and a $5 contribution is expected. Please let Jim know if you plan to attend so he can purchase the correct amount of food and drink.

Raffle

Jim Valinoti hawked more raffle tickets. John Withers, among others took advantage of the special prices (3 for $2; 9 for $5) and the increased potential payoff for non-marble-drawing winners ($25 instead of just $20). Chuck Olson missed the black marble for $540. John Withers won $25, higher prize money because he had taken advantage of the buy-more-save-more ticket prices, and he donated it to "the kids," which we took to mean the Multi-Cultural Pre-School.

Club Assembly

Jim bade those not fortunate enough to be members of Santa Rosa West Rotary an early farewell, and convened the Club Assembly.

The "Dutch Kids"

Dennis Crandall, newly appointed Coordinator of Fundraising took the podium and kicked off our new fund raiser, Pick Your Dream Raffle , designed to raise BETWEEN $15,000 AND $20,000. The lucky winner of the raffle will win a seven-day cruise with:

Windstar
Cruise Lines

The Cruises that are 180° From Ordinary

Windstar operates three sailing ships (Don't worry lubbers, they employ the most sophisticated computer-aided stabilizing and navigational equipment) that ply the verdant waters of the Caribbean, the Mediterranean and the Greek Isles. Visit their website by clicking their name above. Rated the number one cruise line in the world, Windstar makes a fabulous prize worth up to $12,000.

In addition Dennis laid out the whole year's fund raising calendar, emphasizing the need for total club participation and a positive attitude. We will have several opportunities to turn in our tickets (each member gets 10 to start) until Monday, September 29. The drawing will be party on Monday, October 12, which will also be the kickoff date for the Crab Feed.
