An inspiring openingLou Capuano demonstrated patriotic pledge with great New Orleans
flair, and Bob Zeni shared an inspiring "Rotary moment,"
thanking God for good weather, good fellowship and good programs. Visiting
Rotarians looking for a much larger raffle pot were introduced by Chuck Baker. Inner Wheel RecognitionMany thanks to Donna Olson for arranging the Inner Wheel Charter Brunch at La Gare Restaurant last Sunday, and to hear from District leader Pat Scott. About 40 people including guests attended and celebrated the 14th anniversary of the district charter. We also learned more about the progress made with prosthesis (upper limbs only) - great job!! Spouses of Rotarians are encouraged to join and participate. This was never intended to be the "best kept" secret in the North Bay. Other Announcements

Paul Schwartz (right) announced that there will be a new
member reception in about two weeks - details to follow. Paul was not fined for the office
move - yet!RaffleVisiting Rotarian Rick Williams missed the lucky marble, and John Withers donated his lucky $20 to "the kids". There is still some confusion as to whether the pot is back to $750, or if Mike Moore's $1,080 "undistributed" winnings are still in there - leaving $1,830+ up for grabs. It sounds like the "big table" has its own raffle going with much bigger numbers; after all, they have plunked down about $4,000 for tickets plus some "big time" donations. |

| Famous Rotarian John Palmer recognized some
of the most active people on the SOS (Save our Students) committee - i.e., Bob
Marigo (Treasurer), Ellie Lowry, Ginny Pitts, Mark Matson, Bill Fisher,
Bob Zeni, Bob Stone, Gordon Laughrin, Rick Williams and Michael Moore.
The first collaboration project involving all Santa Rosa clubs, Save Our Students, now involves 25 counselors active in 22 local schools. The project has grown from a total Rotary effort to a broadly supported community effort, with Rotary support shrinking from 100% of the budget to 10%. Last year, this project received four major awards plus difficult-to-get grants from the Finley and DeMeo Foundations. Dr. Mark Doolittle, SSU Professor, provided an overview of progress to date. He noted that the project went from 6 counselors at 18 schools with a $10,000 budget in 1994 to 25 counselors providing up to 250 hours per week in 22 schools and a budget of $140,000. The highlight of the program were presentations by three counselors - Elizabeth Ellsworth, Shawn Rowley, Jeannie Duhlburg - with poignant success stories of real progress by individuals made as a direct result of our collective efforts in this high quality program.
