Greetings and Opening

President Jim Valinoti started the meeting at 12:30 sharp. Special guests and significant others had already been greeted as they entered with smiles and roses by our own Ginny Pitts who also announced the visiting Rotarians. John Withers led us in a patriotic pledge, with a snappy, "Ready, aim, fire." Mark Decker gave the "Rotary moment," urging us to commit random acts of kindness.

Mark your calendars...

Recognitions

Mark Matson led this off early by volunteering $100 to the Community Fund for his upcoming anniversary, while introducing his wife, grandmother and other special guests. John Withers dug out of the snow in Colorado. There was ten feet of snow in the suburbs above Colorado Springs, and many transplants from California put out "For Sale" signs. Ginny Pitts received no fine for her trip to Hawaii or for her new office building at 3224 Dutton (due to open on March 1st and site of a future Fireside). She also told us of her anticipated grandchild by saying her son was pregnant, raising some confusion among our more literal members.

Bob Zeni (below) was nailed for $10 by a then less benevolent president. Dave Wattell (right) paid $20 for the privilege of driving a new half 4-Runner

President Jim then became nice again and let Phil Talamantes off the hook for a new $9.00 pair of boots used to help wade up to his fiancée Faye Eastman's beachfront bar in Clearlake (the house is in the lake). Lou Capuano has some upcoming trips to exotic places, and is banking his fines.

Red to Blue Badges

Paul Stychno, Lori Burmeyer and Rick Rybicki each paid $10 for the exchange of red to blue badges. Congratulations!!

Raffle

One Thousand  Forty Dollars stayed safe in the raffle pool today.  Five marbles including the winning one in the bag.  Bill Doty failed to draw the winning marble.  That means $1,040 in the pot next Monday, and only 5 marbles.  Pat Sizemore applied his winnings to his outrageous fine.

Dance Demo - World dance champions Tony and Yvonne Gutsch showed us great style with a lively Country Swing Cha Cha Boogie and a steamy interpretation of Billy Joel's version of Elvis' "All Shook Up" number.

ProgramMaggie Buck, teacher, counselor, theology student and passionate person gave us some suggestions about keeping our romantic fires burning, and other good points about relationships in general.   "Treat your partner as you would yourself" was at the core of Maggie's teaching.  Each day think of how you would like to accomplish this and how you would like to be thought of.  Think of this, Maggie says, as how you would like to be held.   Share that with your sweetie, but not before finding out how he or she would like to be held.  Happy Valentine's Day!
