Special Social Event: John Ramzy re-capped a successful dinner theatre party last Monday at the Old Vic. The innovative "new member" social brought together new members and their companions and sponsors for an evening of gourmet food, including sticky toffee pudding that was upstaged only by the on stage antics of the Fawlty Towers cast.
Jim Valinoti announced an award to Santa Rosa West Rotary for our increase in donations to the Foundation to $37.00 per capita.
Anne Abrams reminded us she is coordinating the "Service Above Self Award." This award, part of our Avenues of Service in Vocational Service is given every year to a community member whose selfless devotion to serving the community can serve as an inspiration to us all. Anne urged members to submit a nomination to her by the December 15 Deadline.
Prez Jim, who obviously needs some new news hounds, announced a marriage in the club, setting us all to wondering. It turns out Past President Patrick Sizemore has coerced the lovely Valerie Ettinger into accepting his vows a year in the future. Jim, this is not a marriage; it is an engagement. Nonetheless, given Pats previously humorous approach to things such as marriage(s) oh well, enough said. Pat has convinced the Reverend Martin Miller-Hessel to momentarily set aside his retirement to perform the ceremony. Congrats to both Pat and Valerie!!! In spite of the fine suggested by Mike Moore of $100, Pat had in hand a $150 check he presented as payment.

June 2, 1997, was an historical day for West Santa Rosa Rotary. That day we celebrated the dedication of the Multi Cultural Child Development Center. A monumental achievement for our club and members who put an immeasurable amount of time, toil and money into the project. Anne Abrahms, Executive Director and Lisa Greenfield, Chairman of the Board of the center presented plaques and recognized club members and citizens of the community who were in the forefront on this project.
Martin Miller-Hessel and Carl Anderson got a special round of applause as conceiver and spearhead, respectively. Scott Bartley, Mike Merrill and Jim Benoit were recognized for professional services. Arnie Carston put in the floor coverings. Geri Dardi, of Ronald Mac Donalds Childrens Charities, was acknowledged, as were former member and electrician Jeff Blakeslee. Past Presidents Bill Gittins and Pat Sizemore. Paul Ahern served as head of landscaping and master delegator. Dick Carlile and Dick Columbine contributed site engineering and contracting. Also presented with awards were committee members Terry Price, Paul Schwartz and Dennis Crandall. Anne also gave thanks to Bill Mc Neany and to Dennis Wilkinson for the creation of the plaques. And to all those who broke through the adobe soil to install landscaping.
Anne and Lisa expressed their gratitude to our club and thanked all who shared in the work on the project.
Program: Abe Lincoln
Marc Matson introduced Roger Vincent, in costume as Abe Lincoln. Abe gave us the Gettysburg Address and regaled us with his wisdom and sagacity.
