OpeningPresident Jim Valinoti brought down the gavel at 12:30 sharp. Ron Street led us in the Pledge of Allegiance, and Mark Decker gave the Rotary Moment, thanking God for the weather and the blessing of fellowship and community service in Rotary. Seventeen visiting Rotarians were introduced by greeter Steve Kay.
Who says Santa Rosa West Rotary meetings aren't fun? Brian Jamar, John Withers, and Mike Merrill had a good time! |

AnnouncementsPresident Jim, wanted us all to observe a moment of silence for the 49er's, whose trouncing by the Kansas City Chiefs, was convincing, and should serve as a wake-up call as we approach the playoffs. John Palmer repeated his previous announcement for the Spirit of Christmas Craft Faire coming up at the Fairgrounds. This fun event features music and crafts and benefits our Save Our Students fund. |
| John Ramzy gave us the final announcement the dinner and show in celebration of
our new members will have happened by the time you read this. The social, on
Tuesday, December 2, takes (took?) place at The
Old Vic, 431 Fourth Street, Santa Rosa. Ma Stokeld will put on their own version
of Fawlty Towers. Guests of Rotarians included Bob Sinai (photo at right), winner of our WindStar Cruise Raffle. Bob chose to accept the $10,000 cash and came by today to get his check and our congratulations. |

| Chris Rosell announced that our annual Salvation Army bell ringing is scheduled on Sunday, December 7, from 10:00 to 8:00 pm at Coddingtown. A sign-up sheet is circulating. Chris also announced the brunch at Josef's on Sunday, December 14, 11:30 am, $25. Get word to Chris if you plan to attend. President Jim pointed out the stunning cards made by the children at the Multicultural Pre-School at the back of the room. Anne Abrams, the director brought these here to sell to raise funds for that favorite project of ours. |

John Ramzy, got to tell us it's official: Smith Barney, his employer, is now Solomon Smith Barney. Dale Sipe spent a while bringing us up to date on his new car, his trip to the Pacific Northwest and his anniversary. Mary Farha apologized for her recent absences, but said her employer, Empire College, needs her sometimes on Mondays. Ken Kushnir gave the El Nino report. It's all a hoax, he explained, put on the funny boys at the National Weather Department. Ken Prouty has been mobile, off pyramid climbing and Red Sea snorkeling in Egypt. Pete LaMonica tried to convince President Jim that 16 Past Presidents were off next week to Hawaii. Under close questioning, it developed that there were only three going. Tim Underhill reported that his business at You Excell is slow but steady and that he has been on a mini-vacation to the South Shore of Lake Tahoe.
Ace Red Badgers Lori Burmeyer and Rick Rybicki set a new record of some kind in hawking raffle tickets. Faye Eastman drew her own ticket for a chance on one of fourteen marbles for a go at the $880 but failed to draw the right marble.
Crab Feed Assembly
|
Jim Valinoti and Dennis Crandall pumped us up about the Crab Feed. On January 17, 1998, our Club's major fund-raiser is going to happen, and it only happens because over one hundred of us make it happen. Ty Pforsich, in charge of ticket sales, waxed eloquent on tickets: an individual ticket goes for $30, and a corporate table at $300 allows your business associates and clients constant attention and top of the list wines.
Dennis Wilkinson manages the bar. Bob Marigo gets plenty of booze and a designated driver as long as he promises to bid heavily. |
| Jim Sullivan is in charge of the auction. We have gotten four airline tickets to any U.S destination, some fine wine and other glitzy goods, but we need lots more. Jim and Dennis Crandall and Jim Valinoti challenged us all to get some great items for the auction. Be creative. What sells and what makes an impact are the personal touch items, the dinners of abalone, the hunting and fishing trips, the Russian River cruises, the Tahoe cabins and Maui condos. Go out and get those items. President Jim reminded us it's not the party, it's not the fun we are after here. Keep your eyes on the prize. What we are doing here is raising funds so that we can do all the good things we do as Rotarians. But it is OK to have fun, too! |
