On a beautiful Monday, the West Santa Rosa Rotary club opened promptly at 12:30 pm presided over by President Bill Gittins. Jim Valinoti led us in the pledge to the American flag and the invocation was given by Sumner Carson Mitchell. Ed Burr introduced and welcomed visiting Rotarians.
Announcements
Carl Anderson gave a brief report on the Pre-school project. He said the $460,000 projection had reached its goal. The project was temporarily delayed, however, because the City of Santa had not yet issued the necessary permits for the project to go ahead. He acknowledged and thanked Mark Decker of the Bank of America for the Bank of America Foundation's gift of $2,500. Also, Pete Lamonica for a gift of chairs and tables from San Francisco Federal.
Dr. Marc Matson announced "Kids Day America." Marc and other health care providers are offering free eye, back and dental screening to children at Point West Professional Center, Santa Rosa on September 21st. SRPD will be on hand to give free IDs and finger printing.
Crab is Back in
Style
Mark Decker announced that our annual fund-raiser will once again be The Crab Feed and will be held on February 1st, 1997. The theme this year will be "Name That Tune." He is hoping to sign the "Pointless Sisters" (a group who sing songs from the '50's in the manner of the Pointer Sisters.) Mark has Matt Myers in charge of clean-up, after the party's over. He will need volunteers. Dennis Wilkinson will be in charge of the bars (he, too, will need volunteers).
Travel Extravaganza
Everyone wants to travel, and the West Santa Rosa Rotary Club has a deal for all our friends and members too good to pass up. Ed Burr has come up with an exciting package. Fly on Concorde from New York to London, stay 5 nights in a first class hotel and return to New York on the QE2. This is a $15,000 value. This prize is for two.
Ed (below right) enticed us with his description (from personal experience) of the ultimate pleasures of sailing on the QE2, while Ken Dansie (below left) described his flight aboard the Concorde.
Ed is asking each member to take ten tickets and sell them to their friends. It's that simple. The winners will have the vacation of a lifetime. Tickets are $30 each.

Program
Arnie Carston introduced our speaker, Peter Mrozik. Peter graduated from the University of Chicago and has been in California for the past 15 years. He is Vice President of Sfnet in Petaluma. Peter talked about business applications on the Internet, including email and advertising. He described the various degrees of sophistication available to advertisers, and suggested that a presence on the Web was something that should be considered by businesses and included in their advertising budgets.
President Bill reminded us that next Monday, September 2nd we shall be dark.
Have a good Labor Day Weekend.
