WELCOME

President Bill Gittins welcomed Rotarians and visitors alike to the 1,266 meeting of Santa Rosa West Rotary. The flag salute was led by Brian Herndon, the invocation by Gary Antolini. Gary was thankful that this indeed was the 1266th meeting, for the extreme success of the crab feed and prayed for those who thought they could stop the justice system by blowing up courthouses to perhaps be granted larger brains and acquire more common senceperhaps to stop the bombings.

Introduction of visiting Rotarians was performed, with editorializing, by Dennis Crandall.

THREE CHEERS!!!

Mark Decker

Three cheers for the success of the crab feed on Saturday, February 1, and cheers to all those who gave of their time, creativity, money and donations. Mark Decker (right) recognized the committee members: Mark, Pagan Cruit, Duncan Holt, Nancy Ramsey, Scott Bartley, Phil Talamantes, Ty Pforsich, Curtis Reinhardt, Eddie Burr, and Matt Myers. Special thanks goes to Pagan Cruit for all her work in the kitchen with her Boy Scout volunteers and the parents from the Multi-cultural Preschool, led by Ann Abrams, and to auctioneer Ken Kushner.

Preliminary figures show that we grossed $33,170 and should net about $23,000. Jim Valinoti reaped accolades for all his work of selling raffle tickets by himself. He garnered $3,600. President Bill announced with the crab feed, the raffle held earlier in his term, and what was rolled over in the budget, Santa Rosa West should have $50,000 for contributing to projects in Sonoma County.

OTHER ANNOUNCEMENTS:

President Bill shared with the group Monday some very interesting facts about Pagan Cruit. We learned that Pagan is an International chef, trained in England, and was a chef in the Bay area. Pagan has been written up in magazines for her cooking abilities.

Neil Silverman sent Santa Rosa West "Greetings from the Jungle." Neil is still in the Amazon working with the medical staff for Rotary International.

Curtis Reinhardt announced the beginning of the process to locate Scholarship candidates to go abroad. Anyone wanting more information should contact him.

DATES OF NOTE:

There will be a new member information session at Pagan Cruit's house on February 4, from 5:30pm to 7:30pm. Bill Fisher will be doing the orientation.

Monday, February 10 we will celebrate Valentines day by inviting our partners or significant others to the meeting.

There will be a board meeting on February 11 at noon at the Bank of the West in Marlow Center. Anyone is welcome to attend.

The 1997 Tahoe City Rotary Ski Challenge will be held at Alpine Meadows Ski Area on Friday, February 28. Release forms need to be turned in by February 10.

The District Assembly will be held in Ukiah on April 18 and 19. Current and next year's board members are expected to attend. Admission will be paid by Rotary for any member attending.

May 30, 31, and June 1 will be the dates of the District Conference to be held in Eureka.

RECOGNITION...FINES:

BOB MARIGO (below left) had a jump on President Bill with the fines. Marigo queried Bill regarding the proper name of our club. It turns out that while Bill helped lead the process to change our name to Santa Rosa West, he still makes out checks to West Santa Rosa. For this little error Bob suggested a $50 fine. Bill gladly paid then noted Marigo's name on the fine list...

Bob Marigo Paul Ahearn

While we normally don't recognize those from other clubs PAUL AHEARN (above right) was called upon to explain the large Band-Aid displayed on his forehead. It appears he injured himself while playing basketball, leaving the other player limping.

DENNIS CRANDALL was fined $5.00 for his editorializing during introductions of visiting Rotarians.

Good Morning Santa Rosa was co-sponsored in January by none other than our own MARC MADSON. Marc did think he had 15 minutes to speak to the crowd that is normally from 200 to 300 in size; it turned out he had all of 2 minutes. For the chance to build his business; however he was fined $25.00.

Jim Valinoti

A half century celebration was recently held by JIM VALINOTI (right). Because Jim is a bleeding heart, President Bill did not fine him.

While Superbowl Sunday has been awhile ago HENRY VON DER MEHDEN was given the opportunity to share how his super bowl pool went. While he did not win, his daughter did win $250. He was fined a 10% "fathering" fee.

DUNCAN HOLT was on vacation again! While Duncan did his best to make this trip to La Paz sound like drudgery, we learned that the 3300 miles he drove was done in his new suburban. For the pleasure of discussing this trip with Bill, Duncan was fined $25.00

TOM TESSIER exchanged a five dollar bill for his blue badge.

And finally...President Bill held a live auction for a Visa Gold, expiration date July 1997. For $1100 dollars John Withers could re-claim his lost card. John said the card wasn't worth a nickel anyway, he had it charged up to the max.

MARBLES:

With $320 in the pot and 49 marbles left in the bag, Laura Bugbee won a chance for the cash...and lost... Bob Miller won the $20 and gave it to Phil Talamantes for the scholarship fund.

THE PROGRAM:

WHATEVER THE MIND CAN CONCEIVE AND BELIEVE...IT CAN ACHIEVE. Napoleon Hill.

JANET CODDING introduced TRICIA GARRETT as the guest speaker. Tricia is a motivational speaker and makes personalized meditation tapes for deep relaxation and positive goal reinforcement.

Tricia spoke of laughter as inner jogging. She sees her role in life as a laughing coach, a love coach, a life enhancement coach. Garrett's training as a hypnotist showed her the power of the subconscious mind. She told the Rotary group that we have to be aware of who we are - we are more than a physical body, we are spiritual beings having a human experience. Metaphysics and physics is merged.

We are what we think we are. Be aware of who we think we are. Most of us have accepted limitations as a child and don't recognize our own strength. We are so much more than our labels. Garrett reminded us that our subconscious doesn't have a sense of humor - it takes things literally; like a child. It will support us in all of our negativity. As a child our first word is generally "no" and that is a limitation we often carry throughout life. Learn to leave out the "nots." Say to ourself, " I am always on time," rather than "I am not going to be late." If you tell yourself affirmations during the alpha state you are much more receptive.

While being aware of thoughts is important the second half of that is also being aware of what comes out of our mouth. Garrett introduced the idea of the Triple A Club:

Garrett reminded the group of the movie Ground Hog Day with Bill Murray. In the movie Murray's day is repeated over and over until he learns the lessons he needs in order to go on to the next day. We are all here until we get it right...
